Okay, this is just an idea, but I think that the voting system for major events, like the Sammerbowl and Tree Voting, should be revamped to go like this:

First off, the voting should be like everybody votes polls and be anonymous until it's finished. Next rather than a simple poll, where the majority of people would just vote for themselves and have some random person win by only 1 or 2 votes, I think that everybody should get a set number of votes (I was thinking maybe 5 or so) to use from the beginning, which can be used however you like, with the only restriction being that you can't vote for any one thing more than once. That way, people can express which ones they think are the best while still having a chance themself.

Thoughts and criticism are accepted.

This is supported, but M'aiq thinks the number of votes should be dependant on the number of people that are taking part in the contest. If only 20 people in it, 5 is too high. If there are 150, 5 is far too low. Maybe one vote for every 10-15 people participating?

Also, one should not be allowed to vote for themselves.

Supported: Good ideas, I'm actually surprised that there are still smart people here.
unsupported: 5 is TOO little, I was thinking along the lines of 40.

Also, italics mean I like it, Underline says that theres a flaw, and the bold is just for the lulz!

You can't vote for over half of the entrants. That ruins the point of this voting system; to be exclusive and fair.

Or how about it's kept the same, but when you lose out of two, you lose a point? Everyone would start at fifty or so, and it makes it that if you appear too often, it's not always good.

It seems like the major concern here is the number. That was just an example, and it would really depend on the number of choices. Basically, 5 is not what the number would be at all times, just to clarify that.

I don't care what number, as long as you can't vote for yourself.

I know for a fact that some people were deliberately voted down for whatever stupid reason some jerks had.

Regardless of how voting systems change, I fear that such maliciousness will still be enacted.

People were likely voted down just because the random picture next to them was considered better, regardless of quality.

Like the people who voted for Urdnot Wrex and the other non-sammer joke entries.

No, I meant that some people intented to make another person's sammer go down simply because of some dislike of that person rather than the idea.

Mine was voted down because it was mine. The downvoter considered me 'too popular for my own good - my sammer would get votes because people like me, so it's only fair' - that was essentially the reasoning. That, and the individual just plain wanted to win. I got upset when I found out, and this lead to shit going down, and now I've apologized for it because... well... I guess really, I overreacted... I didn't mean to stir up anything bad.

It would be hard to come up with a better voting system than what we have now that is fair and hard to abuse.

It's difficult to abuse. Who you vote on is random, so you would have to cycle through many pages before you could target one specific entry. Even if you did, if there are many other voters, you would have little effect.

It is mostly anonymous, the names of the users are not shown on the voting page. It would take a lot of effort to look up the owner of each entry for every matchup. Even if I didn't show it on the user's profile page, nothing keeps the user from telling people who their entry is or is not, and if you had no way to verify, they could even lie about it to trick you

It is fair. If you are limited on votes, then you may use them up before someone can submit their entry, or just use them without even looking at all the entries available. Anyone entering the contest a little bit late would not get many votes and lose because it is based on sheer number. Popular entries would get the most votes, even if they were not the best. The current system allows an evenly distributed amount of voting and ensures that all entries get a decision.

If you read above, Francis, the voiting system now IS rather easy to abuse. I mean, you cna just reapetedly hit refresh and vote down (or up) what you want.

Anonymous is good, but only if it isn't abusable, which I know this one is.

M'aiq always thought one of the basic rules of contests was the fact that you had to be there at the beginning. Neutral

The current idea is like you're getting to vote, and only two of the presidential nominees are on it.

And it's not entirely anonymous when 90% of the people used the sammers they drew as thier Sammer Bowl alts, making it rediculously easy to pinpoint who was who.

Just another idea...

Maybe before we can RP we do all the voting first and keep all Sammers anonymous to avoid discrimination of Sammers during voting.
