Basically, the first post in a topic would be edited, and the topic would show new post, but it wouldn't be moved up. This way, people can still bring attention to their topics without double posting or bumping.  |

It doesn't, but that's the point.
Bumping should only be used for ancient topics. If the topic you want to be re-noticed is only, say, five topics below any stickies in that forum, then editing the first post and making the new post icon appear would be a better idea. |
