Like 'nigger'. Or being called 'retard'.

I don't see why...people care if they're called something like that.

It's a word. You're not going to kneel over and DIE. You shouldn't even be affected by it, honestly.

Its because of the context and the way its used. A retarted person is someone mentally challenged, and if you have ever seen them, it is a very sad experience. So being called a retard is offensive.

As for the word nigger, nigger is a slang and degoratory word for negro, or black. Calling a black person a nigger is basically making fun of their ethnicity and ancestry.

It's not so much the word as the intention behind it - whatever the word itself is, if people use it in an offensive way then people will find it offensive.
