Wow, I get my first strike, and it's something completely out of nowhere.
Anyway, long-winded rant time.
I plead not guilty.
I was discussing the disease of elephantiasis, and the picture was one I took from wikipedia, which in turn took it from the German Bundesarchiv. It is not offensive or pornographic in nature, it merely details part of the symptoms of elephantiasis, which I believed was the illness the woman / man in Popple's picture was suffering from. I would discuss other deviations from the rules in that topic here too, but this is my topic and it would be really immature to point a finger, so disregard that.
I am sorry if I have scared anyone with that picture, but that is harsh reality. The rules - which, by the way, seem to have lost some of their bold headings, or the ones I found in the FAQ were old - say
Quote: | "Scripts, images, files or other devices other than basic text must not be harmful in any way shape or form. " |
I would plead the the image I posted is not harmful. It is educational; it is an illustration chosen by Wikipedia to teach about the signs and symtoms of elephantiasis. However, it might have scared someone. That was unintentional.
Long winded getting my ass out of tarnishing my omg perfect record, I didn't think anyone would be scared of that. We had a Goatse topic like a week ago, and we're all jaded internet veterans, no ?
If this was one of the more horrible images you saw, feel free to strike me. I shall apologize to whoever was offended or scared, but wish to remind I didn't intent harm.
Oh, and I would like to discuss this later on:
Quote: | You have 24 hours to choose, else you will be assumed to be guilty. |
I know it's just a forum on the internet, but that's bullsh*t of the highest calibre. "In dubio pro reo", hello ? That's the principle of nearly every fair court in nearly every state. But, eh, not the place. |

Not guilty. It's the truth, and it's education for the people who wants to know.
And frankly, it wasn't even inappropriate in the first place

Remind me where in the rules it says that if it is educational you can get away with it.
You also removed the evidence. I don't remember where I read it, but that gets you into deeper trouble. |

And that's *crag* retarded for reasons already discussed.
Edit: And it doesn't say a *crag* thing about it in the Rule List. |

The evidence still exists; his post was quoted before it was edited.
Anyway, not guilty. |

There's a difference between "nudity" being used for educational or artistic purposes and "pornography." I don't see why this should be striked (And I find it ironic how in some cases, people will be saying, "WELL, IF IT WAS A MISTAKE WHY HAVEN'T YOU REMOVED IT ALREADY" while in others, people will go "YOU REMOVED THE EVIDENCE YOU'RE AUTOMATICALLY GUILTY.")
Indeed, if this is appropriate enough for a Wikipedia article on a health condition, I don't see why this should be striked. It's in no way sexual. Only educational.
To strike this would be a great injustice.

I guess you're not interested in the medical world.
Also, if we're talking about striking things for being disturbing, why not Popple's image in the same topic? I mean, certainly, there's plenty of people who'll find that insanely disturbing, as well.

Popple didn't even post his image for education.
Worthy of a strike, I guess. |

Can we use some common sense next time and link to the image, as opposed to posting it directly? |

Popple didn't even post his image for education. |
And thus, my point is even further backed up.
Seriously, guys, this shouldn't be striked. We have "inappropriate content" rules to prevent sexual material from finding its way on a site with plenty of young people, not because we believe certain human body parts or growths are evil. In most media, nudity is allowed if it's for scientific, artistic, or educational purposes (Unless we're talking about very young children, but this site is generally PG-13, anyway.).
And since digibutter bases its rules on conventional standards, that should apply here, as well. |
