See, Super Mario Galaxy was suppose to be apart the Super Mario series franchise (Super Mario 64 and Sunshine), but there is a direct sequel to Galaxy? Nintendo messed it up, like when they were gonna make a Super Mario 64 II. I'm guessing Galaxy 2 is to make up for the unreleased N64DD game Mario 64 II. Anyway YOSHI PLAYABLE YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

QUOTE PYRAMIND BREAK OR TOPIC LOCK.

ANYWAY, I THINK I SORTA SOMEWHAT GET WHAT YOU MEAN. THE GREAT THING ABOUT THE MARIO FRANCHISE IS THAT IT NEVER REALLY PROVIDED TYPICAL SEQUELS SINCE MARIO 64; EACH ONE OFFERED A VERY NEW, DIFFERENT WAY TO PLAY, UP UNTIL SMG2. I FIND THAT DISAPPOINTING.

I like it. We need more Mario 3D platformers and a sequel is very nice.

I think SMG2 will be the first time Nintendo will have used a Mario game engine twice.

YES
BECAUSE A DIRECT SEQUEL WITH SEVERAL NEW MECHANICS INVOLVING A BELOVED GREEN DINOSAUR THAT SHITS EGGS IS DEFINITELY A TURNOFF JUST BECAUSE IT'S A DIRECT SEQUEL

IF YOU'RE A LONG-TIME FAN OF 3D MARIO GAMES, YOU'LL KNOW THAT MOST OF THE NEW POWER-UPS- INCLUDING OUR FRIEND, YOSHI- WILL BE EXCLUSIVE TO A HANDFUL OF LEVELS; SOME WILL BE USED ONLY ONCE.

WHILE WE GET, SAY, 5 NEW POWER-UPS, IF THAT TRANSLATES TO ONLY AROUND 5-7 LEVELS WHERE THEY'RE USED (OUT OF THE 15 TO 20 LEVELS THAT WE'LL BE GETTING), THE NEWS REALLY ISN'T THAT EXCITING AT ALL. THE THING IS, YOU'RE RIGHT IN DESCRIBING IT AS A DIRECT SEQUEL, BUT IT WON'T HAVE SEVERAL NEW MECHANICS. IT IS INEVITABLE THAT THE NEW MECHANICS WILL NOT BE USED AS MUCH AS THEY COULD HAVE BEEN (AS WITH SOME OF THE POWER-UPS IN THE ORIGINAL SMG), AND WE'LL BE GETTING A GAME THAT FEELS A LITTLE TOO FAMILIAR TO MARIO'S PREVIOUS ADVENTURE.

SM64 CREATED A STANDARD FOR 3D PLATFORMERS TO TRY TO SURPASS, SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE OFFERED A NEW WAY TO PLAY WITH THE FLUDD, AND SUPER MARIO GALAXY INTRODUCED US TO AMAZING NEW LEVEL DESIGN AND A SMOOTH GAMEPLAY FEEL. MAYBE I'M ELITIST OR MAYBE I'M BEING A PESSIMIST, BUT REGARDLESS OF WHAT I AM, HOPEFULLY YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE WHY I'M NOT IMPRESSED OR NOT HYPING IT. IN ALL HONESTY, I'D RATHER NINTENDO WAIT UNTIL THEIR NEXT CONSOLE TO RELEASE ANOTHER AMAZING, NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN MARIO TITLE, AND IN THE TIME BETWEEN HERE AND THEN REVEAL A BRAND-NEW INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, INSTEAD OF MILKING A PRE-EXISTING CONCEPT.

THEN AGAIN, THIS IS NINTENDO. GUESS I SHOULDN'T BE SETTING MY EXPECTATIONS SO HIGH TO BEGIN WITH.

That's just how powerups work in Super Mario Galaxy.

EXACTLY, AND THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T ARGUE IN FAVOR OF SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 BY SAYING THE GAME'S WORTH GETTING BECAUSE OF "NEW POWERUPS OR GAMEPLAY MECHANICS."

WHAT MAKES A MARIO GAME GOOD IS BECAUSE IT DOES SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND AMAZING, NOT BECAUSE OF THE POWERUPS IT HAS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT A FEW LEVELS.

I SUPPOSE ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS AS TO WHY I'M UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS IS BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO ESSENTIALLY UNDERMINE THE ORIGINAL SUPER MARIO GALAXY; NOT IMMEDIATELY, OF COURSE, BUT WHEN WE COME BACK AND LOOK AT THIS VIDEOGAME GENERATION TEN YEARS FROM NOW. WHEN LOOKING BACK AT THE TIMELINE OF VIDEOGAMES, WHY THINK OF SUPER MARIO GALAXY AS SPECIAL? AFTER ALL, THERE WAS A NEW AND IMPROVED VERSION THAT CAME OUT SO VERY SOON AFTER THE ORIGINAL.

IT ISN'T GOOD FOR EITHER GAME, AS SUPER MARIO GALAXY WON'T BE REMEMBERED DUE TO ITS SEQUEL ESSENTIALLY DOING WHAT IT DID A BIT BETTER, AND SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 WON'T BE REMEMBERED BECAUSE IT WASN'T AS ORIGINAL AS OTHER MARIOS WERE.

SOME MAY ARGUE THAT MAJORA'S MASK AND OCARINA OF TIME WAS A SIMILAR SCENARIO; HOWEVER, MAJORA'S MASK WAS ABLE TO DIFFERENTIATE ITSELF BY MAKING THE USAGE OF MASKS SUCH AN INTEGRAL PART TO THE GAME'S GAMEPLAY.

THE POWER-UPS IN GALAXY, HOWEVER, AREN'T AS USED AS THE MASKS LINK USED.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.

SMG2 will be the first time in North America that Nintendo used a Super Mario game engine twice (that wasn't a re-release).
