As some of you may know, Guild Wars takes a lot of its material from nearly anything around the world. I'll be finding all I can and posting them here.
#1. Red vs Blue

All the characters are taken from the series Red vs Blue, with a few spelling changes. The originals are Tex, Grif, Caboose and Simmons.
#2. Leeeeroy Jeeeenkins!
For those that have seen the youtube movie on Leeroy Jenkins, it is a World of Warcraft player that yells his name when running into battle. Kilroy Stonekin has a very similar look, and yells "Kiiiiilroy Stooonekin!" when running into battle.
#3. Can't touch this.
This skill is based on the song "Can't touch this" by M.C Hammer.
#4. Snakes on a Plane
It's impossible to deny this quest was based on the movie. It pretty much follows the same storyline, albeit much shorter.
#5. Trogdor, the burninator
There are elementalist spells with Rodgort in the name, which is Trogdor backwards. Trogdor is a stange dragon from the Homestar Runner website.
#6. Mortal Kombat
A notable Norn shout is titled "Finish him!", which is a line from Mortal Kombat.
#7. It's just a flesh wound.
This shout is a line taken from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, in which the Black Knight has his arm cut off. He replies by saying "It's just a flesh wound." The skill icon depicts a person with one arm.
#8. You have no chance to survive...
A paragon shout is titled "Make your time!", which is a line that appears in the "All your base" fad.
#9. None shall pass.
This shout is also a line said by the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
#10. Captain Planet!
I got a laugh out of this one. There is a shout titled "The power is yours!"
#11. Stewie Griffin returns
"Victory is Mine!" No explination required.
#12. Evangel/Sting Chameleon is in GW
When you mess up on an attack, it says "Fail". (I just had to do this)
#13. Teasing WoW (Not really)
The mesmer spell "Tease" has an icon resembling a Night Elf from WoW. Night Elfs dancing without clothes is called "Striptease" by WoW players.
#14. Sum of all ripoffs
The mesmer spell "Sum of all Fears" is a reference to the movie of the same name.
#15. Spotless what?
The monk spell "Spotless Mind" is a reference to the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
#16. Explosive.
The boss "Molotov Rocktail" obviously refers to the explosive weapon known as a Molotov Cocktail.
#17. The legend of Ron Burgundy
The title track for maxing out other titles is as follows... "Kind of a big deal" "People know me" "I'm very important" "I have many leather-bound books" "My Guild Hall smells of rich mahogany" "God walking among mere mortals"
Each of these is a line from the movie "Anchorman".
#18. The 3 stooges
In Vehjin mines, there are 3 NPCs named Moh, Lahri and Kurli. (Thanks Exuro)
#19. You got skillz?
The "Skillz" title track has a couple references.
"Numchuck skillz" is presumably from Napolean Dynamite. "Gosu skillz" refers to a term originating in Korea for somebody skilled in first person shooting games. "iddqd skillz". iddqd is the cheat for godmode in Doom. "These skillz go to". Since it is the 11th rank, it displays as "These skillz go to 11", which refers to the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. "Real Ultimate Power skillz". Self explanitory.
#20. Can YOU dance?
The dance for the male ritualist is a carbon copy of Napolean Dynamite's dance. The female dervish dance is supposedly a stationary replica of a famous ice skating routine. Some more provided by Exuro...
Male Paragon = Michael Jackson's Beat It dance. Male Warrior = Saturday Night Fever. Male Assassin = The Robot. Male Elementalist = one of the dances from Seinfeld. Female Necromancer = Thriller! Female Warrior = combination of The Twist and The Swim. Male/Female Monk = dance from Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting.
#21. How could I forget?
Dervishes are based on "Whirling Dervishes". The in-game dervish uses a scythe, and many attacks make them spin around, or "whirl".
#22. Metallica. D:
The elementalist spell "Ride the Lightning" shares a title with one of Metallica's songs.
#23. Who's religious?
The Tyrian necromancer named Eve talks to a skull named Adam.
#24. D&D. Lawl.
The item Ogre-slaying knife has a +9 damage versus ogres. However, there are no ogres in Guild Wars. It's a reference to an audio skit that featured the line "Look at my knife! It's got a plus nine against ogres!" made by Dungeons and Dragons players.
As anybody would expect, there is hundreds I'm missing. I'll update the list as I remember or find out.

I read somewhere that they did a test with the damage boost vs. Ogres. I believe that Trolls, Ettins, and Giants all applied the bonus from the knife.
Oh and for the dancing...
That's all I know off the top of my head. |
