I posted a few days ago about my desire for a Smash Bros demo to appease fans due to the release delay. Thousands of other people have the same request.
So I wrote Nintendo Customer Service asking about a possible demo and explaining the need for one. Today I got a response back:
Quote: | Hello,
At this time, we don't have any plans to offer a game demo of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Typically, game demos are released to familiarize players with a game they hadn't heard of and encourage them to buy it. I think you'll agree that's really not the case with Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
If, however, a demo is made available in the future, we'll be sure to post the news to Nintendo's official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website. I've included a direct link to it below:
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc. Travis Wise |
But ah Mr. Wise, a demo has another purpose... to appease rioting fans. But alas, he did leave us some hope: "If, however, a demo is made..." So your saying there is a chance??? |

There is already a playable demo at E for all. But, if you're talking about a downloadable demo, thats a different story. The real problem with that is that people will play it so much that when it actually comes out, they'll be bored with it. |

WRONG
A DEMO would only have a small amount of stuff from the retail copy of the game; probably less than 1/20. |

What about six characters and three levels? That seems limited enough. |

Woah, there is a chance? A chance of 1/20th posssibility or however you would word it, I'm not typing it over again, but yet, I am taking time to type out this explanation... -_-
I'm glad theres a chance. Small, but better than 0. |

My response:
Hello Travis or other Nintendo representative,
Thank you for your response, but your statement that Super Smash Bros. Brawl does not need a demo or publicity is a very shortsighted stance. Even Microsoft spent millions of dollars on advertising and provided a demo of latest sequel to one of the most popular video games in America... Halo 3. I admire that Nintendo is confident that their games will succeed without using huge marketing budgets, but I hope that Nintendo can one day realize the huge impact a simple demo released to patient fans can make. It is a wise financial decision too, as giving a demo to pre-orders or console purchases would drive sales to record-breaking numbers. You could even sell the demo in the Wii-Shop channel to recoup any bandwidth costs incurred.
If Nintendo plans to keep the Wii relevant, they must not only reach out to non-gamers, but also to the existing fans that have supported them even through the struggling years of Nintendo 64 and GameCube. I realize that you are not the marketing department, but hopefully the word can be spread. |

Also, include Plastic Mario in Brawl. Nao. |

Just don't be so devoted that you'll give him all your coins. I probably won't be, but I appreciate him all the same! |
