I don't care what Halo fanboys say, it is much much better than Halo. The class based system is well balanced and unlike Halo, adds depth and variety to the gameplay. Each class has it's own unique play style, and in many ways it is a very different game each time you play.
The Soldier is your standard unit, equipped with a rocket launcher he is good for charging the front lines. He does have something special about him though, and that's the rocket jump. By pointing the rocket at the ground he can actually shoot himself into the air. Though not an often used tactic, it can be effective.
The Scout is the fastest class and is perfect for taking territories and stealing flags. He carries a scatter gun and a baseball bat to take down enemies with, but with his speed and double jump the gun will probably be more useful. As well, the Scout takes control points twice as fast as other classes. Add this to the fact that every member on the point adds to the control speed, if you defend your Scout well he can take it over pretty quickly which could make or break you in the heat of battle.
The Pyro can cause massive damage over period of time and lite up multiple enemies at a close range, making him a great defender and even attacker when played right. Also he can play air guitar with a fire axe which owns.
The Heavy is the muscle of TF2, he has a giant gun that can take down many enemies in a matter of seconds in exchange for his slow movement. I think there is a misconception that you can run this guy straight into battle and not get killed, but his slow movement makes this nearly impossible...unless you have a Medic of course.
Medics can heal anyone, enemies included, and have the Ubercharge which temporarily makes him and whoever he is healing invincible for a short period of time.
Next is the Demoman. He can toss timed explosives as well as set sticky bombs he can explode on command making him a very versatile character.
The Engineer is the builder of the group and can make turrets, teleporters, and ammo/health dispensers. Engineers are many times more essential than the Medic since the turrets and dispensers help a great deal in defending key locations. If you are a good Engineer though, you will be able to set up turrets in and around an enemy area and that's when things start getting really interesting.
Snipers are another standard class like the soldier you have probably played a little of in other games before. As his name suggests, he is the sniping class of TF2. This class calls for patience as you will have to wait for a chance a chance to kill the enemy up high when they emerge from their base or come out into the open. Although the Sniper can kill most classes with one shot, some classes with a lot of health like the Heavy require a charged shot to take down.
Finally there is the Spy, and as of right now my favorite class to play as. The Spy has the ability to turn invisible, disguise himself as the opposing team or even a member of his own team, and plant sappers to take out turrets and other Engineer buildings. As well they are also able to take an enemy down in one strike with a back stab. Although they are helpful on any map, they can be indespencable in capture the flag matches where there are usually multiple engineer turrets and other buildings.
All in all, Team Fortress beats out Halo in multiplayer simply because it gives a more deep and enjoyable experience then just picking up a gun and firing. This is a game that requires planning, quick wits, and of course team work and no amount of map editing or video recording will ever beat that.
The best part is that this is only one of the games contained in Valve's Orange Box, making it a much better value than Halo anyway. Halo may have been full of content, but it doesn't come close to this beast.
Also yes 2Fort is my favorite map, and yes I do have the achievement for the enemy Medic healing me.
Full review of the Orange Box coming soon. |

the people who CAN play it on a console are whats called "Gamers". "Gamers" are skilled people who play video games, that can handle any platform. |

umm.. unless you have forgotten, Xbox isnt the only console that has FPS... infact, all consoles have at least one. |

This game > Halo also because it is on multiple platforms (even though I think the PS3 port was handed off to EA slaves to do). I only wish they had ported to Wii too.
Cross-platform play would have been awesome, and would have finally settled the keyboard vs gamepad disputes. Oh well, maybe in a patch? |
