Ah... you're using GIMP?
Well, within that individual picture's own editing box, go to 'Layer', scroll down to 'Transparency', and select 'Add Alpha Channel'.
Next, choose the 'Select contiguous regions' tool (the wand), and click in the white area you want to get rid of.
Next, select the Eraser tool... and start erasing within the selected area. It should erase the white into transparency.
When you're done, go to 'Select' above, and choose 'None' - then copy to your clipboard, go to the sig part, and paste it on. Move it wherever you like, etc.
