Before we get into a fun argument, let me state the facts.

Newb: New person, generally asks alot of VALID questions, but that is to be expected... doesn't know much about the community, might not be very computer-smart, all that stuff.

Noob: Someone who is annoying, obnoxious, spams or trolls, asks stupid questions, and basically makes everyone want to kill them.

Let's discuss how only noobs call people noobs, and how only idiots even use those two words outside the interned.

Generally, if you use either term outside the internet, you are a noob

You left out nubs. Nubs are people who are LIKE noobs, but they know they are being retarded and pushing it further.

Agreed on that definition and the other ones. And from this, we get nubsauce, nubcake, and so on. The same applies for noob, but newb isn't used as an insult in most situations I have been in.

I use noob and nub outside of the internet only when talking to friends who play the same game. Other than that, you tend to get frowned upon.

And for a last point, I don't call people noobs unless I'm joking around with them. I prefer to call people who deserve to be called noobs "scrubs", or slightly darker words that I will not put here... Wink

A Choob is somebody who is obviously mature and experienced, but is acting immature for the sake of humor. In other words, its not offensive, its more complimentary.

For those who still have trouble differentiating between the two terms...

Newb
The person is new.

NOOb
The Os are both for obnoxious, so he's doubly obnoxious.

Very well, all newbs are newbies, but all noobs aren't necessarily newbs. A noob can still know a lot about forums, and still be a complete idiot.

Noobs are annoying. I should know, I see a lot of them on Gamefaqs. Razz

Newbs, however, aren't that bad.
