One afternoon, Darien was sweeping the floor of his Pokemon Daycare, with Heather casually hanging up-side-down on the sofa. Darien's roommate and closest friend Aaron was gone for the day with his girlfriend, so the others were taking the opportunity to clean. The floor was almost completely spotless, when Heather's angry Jigglypuff chased Darien's young Venonat away from the carpeted play-corner and across the shiny wooden floor. Furry, buggy footprints and a series of spots from Jigglypuff's footpads now covered the area around the table.

"You guys," Darien chided angrily, "I was just cleaning that, and you messed it up again! What have I told you about staying on the carpet until I'm done?"

Venonat rubbed his head in shame, and on his way back to the carpeted area, scrubbed the prints away with his thick fur. Jigglypuff simply huffed and hopped onto the couch with Heather. Smiling, Darien threw a treat from his apron pocket in Venonat's direction; catching it flawlessly, Venonat cheerfully chowed down without invitation.

"You're so good at controlling them," Heather sighed, "and with so much kindness, too. You should be a Trainer."

"Um," giggled Darien shyly, "I toyed with the idea, but I didn't want to leave you..."

"I'll come with you, then!" Heather announced, "and it's not like we can't return here any time. You take your six, I'll take mine, and Aaron and Allie can stay here and watch the rest because they're not interested in fights."

"Maybe... I'll have to get out my planner and think of stuff we'll need to get to the next Gym," pondered Darien.

"Hmm... maybe since Rapi is going on his meditation trip or whatever he said it was, with his Pokemon... and little Lilly's trying to become a Ghost-type Gym Leader or whatever... perhaps the four of us can go together?"

"That's good. Just help me wipe off these shelves and we can start making a supply list and stuff, okay?"

"Sure."

In about a week, the group was already traveling out. Heather and Darien were going out to Violet City to meet up with Lilly and Raphael later. Starting out from the Daycare south of Goldenrod, they tried to decide their route.

"Let's go the Ilex Forest way," Heather suggested, "we can train in the woods, get the badge in Azalea or whatever, and plus, Toshiro works there with his Delibird in the Pokemon Center."

"But the forest is kind of dark... and we should try to get to Violet as fast as we can... so let's pass through Goldenrod, and take that route..."

Heather shot Darien a cruel glare. "Okay... I guess maybe we could use some training in Ilex Forest," he conceded pitifully.

The couple entered the forest, Heather's Pokemon all securely in the Pokeballs in her belt alongside her guns. Darien thought Pokeballs were too confining, however, so his team of six walked alongside him directly.

"This is actually quite relaxing," Darien pondered as he hiked, but as soon as they were into the darkness of the woods, they heard something.

Jamie cursed quietly as she stood up, brushing herself off. She had tripped over a small branch while walking through the Ilex Forest with her favorite Pokemon, a small Spheal, rolling along behind her.

She had gotten this Spheal quite a while ago. When she graduated from Violet City's Trainer School, her mother had boughten it as her gift for getting near top marks. Although she was a great student, Jamie wasn't the greatest trainer. Her inability to think properly under pressure and her clumsiness often led her to making stupid mistakes.

She was traveling through the Ilex Forest after deciding that since she knows enough about battling in theory, she should be able to get better at it. She aspired to be a great teacher, but she knew she would hardly be able to if she couldn't even earn a few gym badges.

Combing a leaf out of her shoulder length, brown hair, she saw a group of trainers headed her way.

This is it... She thought. She took a deep breath.

"Hey, you!" She yelled. "Come on, someone battle me!"

Heather jumped out in front of Jamie, tossing a Pokeball. "I'll take your challenge. Jigglypuff, go!"

The Jigglypuff, newly released from its Pokeball, filled its body up with air. "PUFF!"

"I'll leave this one to you," Darien sighed, backing away cautiously.

"Come on, Darien, work with me here. Stop being a little girl." Heather yanked him forward. "Eevee! Fight!"

Eevee, eager to join in, acted on Heather's orders before Darien could oppose. Using Quick Attack, Eevee leapt upon Jamie's Spheal with lightning speed.

OOC: Oh... sorry. D: Okay, I registered there. Did I do everything OK?

Spheal bounded backward slightly, being surprised by the sudden attack. Jamie could tell her Pokemon had already taken a harsh blow.

Caught off guard by the challenge to fight two on two, Jamie had some quick thinking to do.

"Uh... um..." She said, fumbling. Without taking time to think of anything, she tossed another Pokeball from her belt. "Go, Pichu!"

The small yellow Pokemon jumped from her ball, eager to battle and prove herself tough. She ran forward after Spheal and put on a face of determination that made Jamie slightly giggle.

"Here we go..." Jamie said. "Okay, Pichu, Double Team, and use Surf, Spheal!"

Eevee was bowled back by the Surf attack, but Jigglypuff was able to stand her ground.

"Jigglypuff! Pound!" Jigglypuff aimed to hit Pichu, but Pichu was too quick. Jigglypuff fell forward, punching the ground instead.

"Okay." Darien stepped into the fight. "Eevee, can you get up? Use Return, then."

Filled with love for his trainer, Eevee lurched at Pichu with surprising accuracy. Darien crossed his fingers, wondering if the Pichu would be able to dodge, but this time Eevee was faster. Eevee landed down on Picho with a forceful thump.
