Honestly, I don't understand what happens in the ending. I get the part where Mario and Peach fly away with the power of the Grand Star, and that Bowser watches his planet die and turn into a Black Hole, but then...I don't get it.

I understand the drama of the whole "Luma Sacrafice" thing, which was actually pulled off very well, but when a 50-foot Rosalina is hovering over me, telling me the secret of life or something...I honestly don't get it. Did everyone there die or something? Were they reborn? Did Rosalina just hit the Reset button against Mr Resetti's wishes?

Honestly, I just don't understand it. I asked a 6-year old to watch me (since they're so uncontaminated by complex story lines) and asked them what they saw. They said "Everyone lived happily ever after!" then I kept pressuring them and that got nowhere other than me having to sacrafice a cookie or two to keep my eardrums in check...

So I was just wondering if anyone else really understood the ending. Mostly I'm interested if Mario died...that would be a little dark for Miyamoto.

Well, what I saw was this:

"Yay! You save the whole Universe! Which, by the way, my darling little Lumas become! See this black hole? This is sweeping up all the bad places that Bowser created with his dark magic and stolen Grand Stars. But, luckily for you, the Black Hole won't devour you all. You and the denizens of your galaxy will be sent back! But please, if you ever want to go flying around the universe again, just think of your own galaxy as a mini universe. Bye bye!"

And then Mario/Luigi waking up and seeing Bowser and Peach and then randomly shouting "Welcome to a new Galaxy!"

Oh, I thought the "Cycle never repeats itself in the same way" meant that the Airships no longer fly, Bowser's nice on some occasions, and apparently the explaination for all of those spacy levels in Sunshine.

That or the little Luma in Mario's hat caused everything to die and then suddenly get reborn, one or the other.

Anyone notice how there was Dino Piranha and all the rest in the crowd at the festival? Somehow, I think Rosalina DID hit the reset button, except this time, rewriting history to be much more peaceful.

Well, Dino was a moron anyway...he could've just been hatched peacefully for once. Not many NPC's to celebrate, like there were in Sunshine...

Still, the idea of everyone dying and being reborn is just.... not Mario.

Well, that's coming from the guy who thinks it's sad how Lumas turn into inanimate objects and therefore die.

Lumas turn into planets. When Bowser's sun went BOOM, all the Lumas transformed themselves into new planets in order to create a new galaxy...hence the "welcome new galaxy" at the end.

As for why all the bad guys are celebrating...it makes for a good ending.

So...I don't get it. Did Mario and Bowser and Peach and Junior and Bowser's minions and the Toad Brigade and Luigi all die, and then get recreated in the new galaxy? Hence the phrase at the end where Rosalina states that the rebirth of stars or somethin' lives inside all of you.
