Emo!
A label used commonly on Digibutter, sometimes correctly, sometimes not. Would you give, please, your own definition of 'emo'? I'd like to see what some of you think. I do believe there's a difference between being emo and being very sensitive, and I'd like to think that I fall under the latter category. So, I apologize if I take some things seriously, even though I'm not quite sure why I should be apologizing for having my feelings hurt. @_@ |

'Emo' is a state of mind, where one is constantly emotionally cornered and can no longer go through life with any positive attitude. 'Emos' find pleasure in thinking depressing thoughts and inflicting pain on themselves, because in their eyes there's no reason to be happy anymore. |

So it is an extreme. I'm happy to say I don't feel any of those terrible things.
Nonetheless, the word emo is thrown about pretty nonchalantly at times here on Digibutter. |

Sadly, it's true. Anything serious is subject to the word nowadays. |

In my opinion, an emo is someone who's into general emo culture. Listening to music labeled as 'emo', dressing up in stereotypical emo attire, etc. Having feelings does not make someone emo in my book. >_> |

This is the exact opposite of what I would say. "Emo" is short for "emotional", and therefore cannot be used as a label for how people dress or what music they listen to. That would make "emo" a lifestyle, and it's not.
And, well, feelings are emotions. That's why people who act even a little bit depressed are immediately labeled as emos. Which is also unfair, because you're right... having certain feelings doesn't automatically make someone emo.
My definition? It's stupid. I think people should completely stop being labeled for how they act, dress, or what kinds of music they listen to. |

Thank you. I really don't like the societal labels we've formed for people. Labels mean assumptions, and generalization of a person or persons. |

This.
Unfortunately... once it has been established that someone is 'emo', they will never be able to shed the name, even if they were called an emo for the wrong reasons. One of the many problems my school has. :/ |

Emo actually comes from the word "Emotive" a music genre from the nineties. At some point people who were fans of the music where labeled as "emo" That wasn't a bad thing. Then stupid happened. Here we are now! |

I think the whole "emotional" thing is actually the stereotype itself, spawning from the general attitudes of those who listened to emocore music. |
