For those of you who don't know, ZSNES is the best SNES emulator ever made. The main reason is Netplay, which allows you to play multiplayer SNES games with other people over the internet. It's a bit difficult to use, though, so I'm making this guide so that people don't constantly have to explain how to use it.
- First, download ZSNESW version 1.42 or earlier. Yes, earlier, the Netplay option was removed in all the later versions.
- Next, download a ROM (Read-Only Memory) of the game you want to play. Downloading a game you don't own is illegal, so keep that in mind, assuming you actually care. If it came in a zipped file, extract it. The file ending in ".smc" is the actual ROM. Both people need to have the same version of the game, and the filename must be the same. If you need to rename the file, be sure to add .smc to the end or else ZSNES won't be able to find it.
- Download Hamachi. Once it's finished installing, open it, connect, and join the Digibutter server. The name is "Digibutter" and the password is "nerr".
- Decide on the game, filename, etc. etc. Open up ZSNES. Go to "Netplay" then "Internet". Whoever is hosting will be player 1. If that's you, change your Nickname to whatever you want your name to be when you chat. Then, click "START AS SERVER" and wait for the other players to connect. If you're player 2-4, look at the IP address beside the host's name on Hamachi. Enter that into the "IP" box on ZSNES and click "CONNECT TO SERVER".
- Load the ROM, or wait for the other player(s) to do so. If every other player has the same version of the game with the same filename, the game will load and you'll be playing. While playing, press the T key to chat.
There. Now, when some noob asks you how to use Netplay, just link them here. Mods, if you think this should be stickied, please sticky it to it doesn't get lost. |

I've done Smash Bros and Star Fox over Karellia (or whatever) on Project 64, and Kirby Super Star on SNES9k Karellia with O Chunks. I've also done Mario All-Stars + Mario World with CB Luigi. O: |

I don't get why they removed a feature like Netplay. |

LOGAN!!! APPROVES OF THIS TOPIC
Also, I have discovered that Earthbound can be played with any controller, allowing co-op play, alternating between playing and watching/chatting. I've done it with Darkzero. |

BUMP! I want more people to join.
Also: | Francis wrote: | | What games do you usually play over Netplay? |
Its not exactly online play, but more like multiplayer. So even though you are far from each other, one guy is player one, and the other one player two (up to five players) So Basically, any game with multiplayer function goes.
But what we usually play depends on what games you like and what games the other players likes. I think the most popular ones are SMW, Eartbound, SSB and a few others.
One last thing: Maybe we could create an online game tourney, like with SSB. |
