SSG's Brawl/Character Impressions

I've always wanted to create this topic, so i can give my opinions on each characters,
having seen every character's gameplay many times at E for all and the leaks, I think I know how each character is now. If you have had ANY questions regarding the character's improvements from the last game, look here and I'll show you almost all the differences from Melee to Brawl. One of my goals in Brawl is to spot the differences from Melee to Brawl regarding characters.
This can be like a guide for the Brawl's cast and see how they play and see the differences from Melee to Brawl.
Why am I doing this? well I'm bored and I want to share my opinions on the characters. thats all.
After I do all the characters, I'll go on to Stages, then items, assists, pokeballs, and SSE impressions. Maybe even more impressions? Such as training modes, stadium and every single other modes in the game? perhaps even the new techniques?

Kirby
Kirby who was a deadly character in 64, got nerfed in Melee, returns for Brawl. And this time, he's a mix between 64 and Melee. Overall he's still like his 64 self since he's recieved some major buffs but there are some nerfs as well.
His B is of course, Copy. Not much to say here. Kirby's Olimar power is in fact NOT useless, he plucks pikmins and throws them at your opponent, then pikmins die automatically.The new feature for Kirby this time around is that he CAN suck up Items, yes items this time. Ex: when he sucks up a fire flower, Kirby gets the ability to breathe fire. I'm not sure if he can suck up every items, but we'll see. But he DOES suck up items for sure. His up B seems the same, except the blade range may have gotten shorten just a little bit, according to some videos/people. His Side B has received the most change. When you use it on the air, Kirby won't swing it vertically. Instead, he swings it horizontally, just like when used on ground. The swinging range has also got shorten a bit, which is sadly, a nerf. His down B seems to last shorter than before.
Kirby's dash attack is different this time around. Instead of that fireball dash, he now does some sort of a breakdancing move as his new dash attack. His smash attacks and air attacks seemed to recieve some buffs. His side smash recieved the most buff I believe. If not, its one of his air moves. I really can't tell I've seen only like 7 Kirby videos. His grabs seem exactly the same as melee, I think.
His final Smash, the cook Kirby. Last time I checked, that DS cooking music does NOT play when he uses this move. Basically he just takes out a cooking pot and all the players are sucked into the pot, ready for their demise. After Kirby's done cooking, a few Kirby items pop out of the pot and your enemies are launched out of the pot, almost guaranteed a KO.
Overall Kirby is a lot better than his Melee counterpart. he should be higher on the tiers again, but probably not Top tier.


Pikachu
Pikachu was also another very strong player in 64, but got nerfed in melee. He's back in Brawl and he's recieved some major buffs this time. His air moves seemed to have received a lot of buffs. His Dair and Fair seemed to be a lot stronger this time, plus a cool lighting sound effect. His Dair also has decent knockbacks this time. His smash attacks are stronger too this time.
Pikachu's B is the same, except they seem to do more damage this time. His Down B seemed to be a lot easier to use this time. Instead of the thunder coming from a cloud, this time it seems the thunder comes from the very top of the ceiling, so you can spam it in big stages like Temple or New Pork City :O also the thunder seems it comes down even faster this time. I think Thunder received the biggest buff for Pikachu ever. His Side B seems a lot stronger, as it KO'd a Sonic at 40-60% I THINK it charges less now too, not too sure about, gotta double check on that. However his Side B DOES have less lag than before. Unfortunately, the Pikachu players that I spectated NEVER used Pikachu's Up B, so if anyone knows, feel free to give your impressions on that.
His final smash seems hard to control as many thought. Great move for edge guarding. Not so great on 4vs. 1 on 1 seems better for this move.
Overall Pikachu's received some MAJOR buffs this time, both special and smash moves. I think Pikachu will be high on tier again and for you Pikachu mains, you will be satisfied, because Pikachu is like his 64 self again.


Yoshi
Yoshi was decent in Melee, and Brawl is no different. His Dair seems to do more damage this time, and lags very little after the move is done. His running speed isn't that fast, but not that slow either.
His Dair seems to have received the most buff for Yoshi's air moves. His Fair and Bair seems to be better too. Yoshi's smash attacks still does great damages. Yoshi also gained some range buffs in Brawl, including his smash and air moves.
His Up B is supposed to be his third jump, however its still useless when your using it to jump a third time, as you gain only a bit of height. So stick to his air dodges to recover. Still his Up B DOES have some buffs, it appears you can use it multiple times in the air, but you CANNOT gain multiple heights in the air. I THINK his egg throw has some buffs, I'm not sure what though. His Side B does more damage and knockback when i observed it more carefully. Also I think his side B has less start up lag. B is the same too. His Down B has little to no lag this time after done using. Still can be used to grab ledges.
Final Smash the Super Dragon, it seems its better on 1 on 1 matches. The fireballs does exactly 25% damage. Not many people used his fire breathing move.
Yoshi is buffed up this time for Brawl, so overall he's a good character to use again.


Mario
The familiar red capped plumber that we all know. He is almost unchanged from Melee when it comes to his smash attacks. He does have a new special move.
His down B is FLUDD which does absolutely no damage but has knockback. The more you charge it the stronger the knockback. Still FLUDD takes a lot of time to understand its full use so it'll take a lot of understanding to use it correctly, so right now consider FLUDD USELESS. His Side B is the cape, which I think is a bit more useful than Melee, since it kinda brings you up a tiny bit higher. Otherwise its the same cape from before. His B is fireball, the same thing from melee. His Up B is a bit different in Brawl. It seems it does more damage and hits with every hits it lands on, so thats a plus. It has a better knockback too. Also the Up B might have improved in recovery, pretty sure it did, as seen in gameplays. After using Up B and landing, it has much less landing lag than before, making Mario ready to go already.
You all know his Dair is the Mario Tornado right? well I think you can't move around on the ground anymore with the Mario Tornado, but we'll see. His smash attacks seemed to receive some buffs, as well as some of his air moves. His side B is especially a bit stronger.
His Final Smash is the most average one. Best used on either side of the stage in midair. It works best in small/simple stages such as Battlefield, Final Destination, or Smashville. Doesn't work well on big stages like New Pork City or Temple.
Overall Mario improved a bit from Melee, but he's the same old balanced character. Great for beginners.


Link
The hero of...Light, or Time, or whatever. Light in this case because his models are based off from Twilight Princess Link. This time in Smash Link has finally received A LOT of buffs. He's faster, less laggier, and stronger.
Lets move on, his smash attacks comes out faster, and its stronger. His dair is stronger this time, makes a cool sound effect, but it still lags after use. His fair and bair seems stronger too. Link also runs faster this time too. But he's still slow compared to Mario and other middle class characters.
His B move, the arrows, comes out waaaaay faster than before, even if charged less. His bombs seemed to received some major buffs, because the bombs kill instantly in sudden deaths. So its like a mini bob-omb now. His spin attack can be charged on the ground ONLY. And even if its charged, its still useless. Because Link's Up B has been nerfed. Its not a good move to edgeguard anymore. However it lags less and when used on air to recover, it does brings you up a bit higher than melee. The Gale Boomerang brings items and players close to you. Still does little damage. Not much to say about it.
His final smashes can only slash one person, however on the ending blow, it can hit multiple people.
Overall Link has gotten MUCH better than Melee Link. For you Link mains, be happy that he's better. Still be happy that you won't use that cheap Spin Attack and play fair.


Fox
The pro's character, unfortunately, has been NERFED. Yes Fox has been nerfed badly this time I'm sorry to say. But based on what I saw, he isn't like melee fox anymore. I've seen many Fox gameplay so I think I have enough proof to say that he's nerfed. However he's still a great and powerful character, I just think he won't be top tier anymore.
First, his specials. His Blaster has been nerfed a bit, since its ranged has been shorten. However I think it comes out faster. Fox's side B this time I Believe you can cancel it while in the middle of the move. Great idea to include this cancel in case your one of those who misuse it and fall off a stage. I'm not sure if it still can cancel since it did in the demo but not sure about the final version. Anyways his Up B seems to be a bit stronger, but its still the same Fire Fox from Melee. His Down B, the shine I call it, has been nerfed sadly. You CAN'T short hop/shine cancel anymore due to Brawl's new physics engine. I still think you can short hop but it'll be even more difficult this time due to its physics. The pro's move nerfed, sad yes but its still useful to reflect things.
His smash attacks seems the same a bit. Maybe buffed a little. Not too sure. Not sure about air moves, though they seem the same.
His final smash, the landmaster, is more useful on smaller stages. Great edge guarding tool. The barrel roll is insta KO when the % is high.
Overall Fox is still a strong and great character, just not like his Melee counterpart anymore due to the new engine. For you Fox mains, remember there are still his strong smash moves so you can still be good with Fox.


how were my impressions? I'll post more character (Peach, Zelda, Shiek, Samus, DK, and Bowser) if you guys liked my review. I really plan on the veterans since I'm aiming to tell you guys the difference from Melee to Brawl.

Feel free to comment on my impressions. Might do stages next.

Peach
Good news for you Peach fanboys, she has received some buffs for Brawl. Her attacks comes out much faster, and she runs faster. She still has float canceling. Her smash moves has received some nerfs unfortunately. The biggest change in her smash move is her Down smash. It does less damage and has less knockback than before. It won't kill at 30-50% anymore. Her Down Smash won't even kill in Sudden Deaths. Its still a great move to annoy due to its less start up lag. Her up smash seems to have a bit more range. Peach's side smash is a KILLER in Brawl. This move comes out faster and its stronger too. Her air moves remain the same like in Melee. Still have the combo.
Her special moves are a bit different. The most noticeable one is her Side B. Instead of causing an explosion, it causes a burst of pink hearts. It seems less laggy too and a bit more powerful. She plucks her veggies faster this time. She still can pluck a bob-omb, beam sword, Mr. Saturn, and the death Turnip. As with every other items, the turnips are easier to catch thanks to the new technique. Her Up B seems the same, however due to the new physics engine, she falls down MUCH slower than before. She falls faster too when you cancel the umbrella. So Peach can stay up in the air much much longer than melee. Plus with her floating ability, even longer. Still, the umbrellas pretty slow.
Her FS seems pretty useful on one on ones only, as you can both eat the peaches and pwn your opponent. Still its a great FS, but keep in mind that it won't work while your foe is on the air.
Overall, Peach is a lot better this time for Brawl. She's fast on the ground, great in the air, plays similar to melee. Still a light class. Looks like Peach will be used a lot in competitive matches, because shes a lot stronger for Brawl. Prepare for "Ooohh Did I win?"


Zelda
Zelda was always my main and favorite characters. Mostly because of her impressive powerful air moves and the ability to change into Sheik. This time I will be even more than impressed with Zelda because she has received some pleasurable buffs. :D
First, the important thing. My favorite move for Zelda has been buffed. Yes her fair and bair, the flying magical kick. It had a great knockback and damage in Melee. In Brawl, this move got even better, it does more damage and a higher knockback, able to kill Mario at 20% or higher (could be less) thats an amazingly low % kill for a middle class! This fair and bair is by far, Zelda's deadliest killing move ever. Her uair is buffed this time, doing a whoopin' 16% damage, unlike melee's 13% How strong is that? Imagine Bowser's Up smash, now thats Zelda's third killing move. Her dair seems to come out quicker this time, but I have only seen this move being used once.
Her down tilts the same but it seems it does more damage and its slightly less laggier, which is good. Her dash seems to push her foward more this time and her hands can sweet spot due to the new sweetspotting mechanics. Her side smash definatly received some buffs, as it comes out faster and has less ending lag. Might does a bit more damage too. Zelda also received buffs on her down and up smash as well. Her up smash received some major horizontal range this time. The lag seems present unfortunaley. Her down smash is going to be useful this time, as it is less laggy and it comes out faster.
Her Side B, Dins Fire, is a hard one. There has been reports that this move's explosion raduis is larger this time. Also there seems to be no delays on detonating it unlike melee The time invested on the attack is shorter too, and the fire's range might have gotten shorter, so Zelda's side B received a buff and a nerf at the same time. Her B remains the same with the same invinciblity frame. Not much change in Nayru's Love. Zelda's Up B is pretty much the same from melee. However her falling speed is increased so she falls faster after using Up B. Currently it is unknown wether controling the direction for the Fayore's Wind is eaiser, there has been reports that it is eaiser to control the direction but I'm not sure. Also her Up B has new sound effects. Her down B IS nerfed in fact. The time to take to transform is EVEN longer than melee, almost longer than Pokemon Trainer's down B. Its like 4-5 seconds, which means switching could eat up a lot of time, and there is a bit of lag afterwards. This really isn't a problem for me since I NEVER use both Zelda and Sheik in the same fight. I always use both of them separately.
Her FS seems pretty powerful, after it hits someone, it gets a "Dragoon" cutscene effect and its almost always guaranteed a KO. Zelda's light arrows KO high in the air.
Overall Zelda's gotten better at her aerial game. She's a stronger fighter now but still the slow princess. However speed and ground game doesnt' matter...to me because my Zelda is all about aerials and when you guys face me online, watch out ;)


Sheik
Still the fast assassin like in Melee. Still pretty similar to her melee counterpart. However due to the new physics engine, chain grabbing seems a bit more difficult this time around.
Her FS is the same as Zelda, with the same Dragoon cutscene effect. However when it hits someone, they get knocked...straight forward, thats pretty straightforward. Almost always a KO, like most other FS.
Onto her moves, Sheik is still a fast and a very low laggy character. However, sad to say that her strengths have been nerfed. Her Fair. It no longer kills at 100% for middle classes and can only kill at very high percentages. Her smash moves seemed to do less damage but still a great fast move.
Her specials seem similar for Brawl, I think her Up B has more to same range this time. I might update this again when I have more info on her specials. EDIT: her side B lets her to tether recover now.
There is a new technique that only a few characters can learn. It is called Wall clinging and Shiek is one of the few that can do it. Basically you just cling onto the wall, jump off from it and perform the jumps. There has been rumors that Sheik can also Tether recover but I'm not sure, I'll check into that.


Samus
Samus seems to be largely ignored this time around, I don't know why though, maybe they want moar Ridley? Oh well this time around Samus received some nerfs and some buffs. You can still pull off a combo with her down throw. Samus is just as slow/fast as she was in melee. Her moves moves more like her 64 counterpart, which is good news for Samus mains.
Before we go on, I would like to say her model for Brawl is much larger than in melee, so she is a bigger target than before now, making her a bit more easier to hit.
Her aerials have bunch of potentials. Her neutral air acts the same like before. The damage might have been nerfed, but still useful. Her uair is harder to land in Brawl, but its really powerful. It can send people flying much further than Melee. Samus' strongest killing move is her bair, has high knockbacks and able to kill at low %. This is easily Samus' strongest air move. Because of Samus' bigger height, short hop actually seems harder. Her tilts are still pretty much the same, but her up tilt has some killing potentials. Her smash moves are different too. The only one thats still the same like in melee was her forward smash, still a great killing move. Her down smash sends you straight up this time. Her up smash improved greatly, its like her 64 up smash this time.
Lets move on to her specials, which sadly received some nerfs. Perhaps one of the most disappointing nerfs for her is her Side B, the missles. The homing missiles look different but its almost the same. The non-homing super missiles however received some bad nerfs. First of all its knockback won't go horizontal, all vertical. This missile won't kill at low percentages anymore. It still kills, but only at high % and its still a great edgeguarding move. Her B move has been nerfed as well, as a fully charged shot won't even kill a Fox at 100% The charge shots have gotten a lot weaker than in melee and could only kill probably at 170% or higher depending on the character. Charge isn't that powerful like before, so a fully charged charge shot is like middly charged Roy's B move. Bombs are a bit different for Samus this time. Still has the less knockback thing. Bomb jumping is still in, but difficult to pull off. Her Up B recovers higher than in melee, so thats a plus.
Her tether recovery is easier to recover with this time, but it sucks. You CANNOT shoot your grapple straight out towards the stage, and you also cannot do a rising air dodge which makes the tether much less useful.
Her FS acts pretty much like Mario's FS. It has great damage, great knockbacks, and you turn into ZSS, which I'll go over later. You can pick up her armor pieces and they have some great knockbacks.
Overall Samus has received some major changes, both equally buffs and nerfs. Samus still seems like a great character when it comes to air/combo. Her specials are a downfall but you can still main Samus easily if you focus on her combos and grabs. However it seems you will have to re-invent your Samus, Samus mains, so prepare for a long journey up ahead!


whoo thats it for today, I really don't have time today, tomarrow I'll try to finish all the veterans and a few newcomers,aiming for ZSS, Pit, and Diddy first.
Hope you enjoyed it guys and tomarrow I'll cover as much as i can.
After I do every characters, I'll move onto stage/items/pokemons/assist impressions, thats when I'll change the title for this topic. Maybe this can be a guide for New Brawlers or for those who are wondering how each characters act, so if this is stickied I will greatly appreciate it.

Aww...people had better put up more videos of Sheik, 'cause I want to read your thoughts on her! She was my main in Melee, SSSSS-BLAM. Unfortunately (for me), I heard she was nerfed...don't have any proof, though.

Before I go on to the next 3, I would like to say NO WAVEDASHING in Brawl, its gone get over it. Theres a bunch of new techniques in Brawl to make it up for it.

Ice Climbers
Prepare yourself to reinvent your Ice Climbers, IC mainers, because your going to have to play them differently for Brawl.
First the important fact, Brawl's new physics does NOT allow anyone to do a chaingrab so thats a goner. Floatiness and Smash DI is much easier this time. Without chain grabbing and wavedashing the Ice Climbers seems sucky right?
Nope! Things arn't THAT bad for our ICs. Due to the new autosweetspot technique, using IC will be easier this time. There has been rumors of a Footstool Jump Desynch where they both footstool jump together. Not sure but they had grab desynching and meteor smashes in melee.
I still think Popo can grab while Nana F smashes, I think thats in Brawl too.

It seems Ice Climbers are aiming towards advanced smash players, because without Nana, Popo is what they call almost useless. Can't recover like before with Up B without your partner. I think the range for Up B is slightly higher.. but onto her other specials. IC's Down B might have more range, does more damage, and it freezes for a longer time. IC's B and Side B seems to remain the same, the B move might be a great edgeguarding tool.
Their FS is really great, but at the same time, broken. Anyone on the iceberg continues to take damage until they get off the iceberg, but as soon as they hit the iceberg, its like you continue to be stuck on the iceberg, thus continuing to take damage. It can go up to 70% i think. Also while your foes on the iceberg, you have the chance to KO them, which is nice, at the same time, cheap :P still a great FS to use, and fun at the same time.
Not to sure about their smashes or aerials but they do seems tiny bit stronger, though I'll have to check on their F smash. Tilts are the same I believe. Not many IC's videos, I'll keep updating this as time passes and more Brawl IC videos come out.


Donkey Kong
DK wasn't used many by people at E for all or the final version, maybe its because he's not that popular or maybe because of all the characters from Melee, DK has received the least to no change at all. Still I did my best to research DK, so forgive me DK mains.
DK's cargo throws seems intact and improved this time, but it seemes you can only land it once due to him being a heavy character. His uair saw some improvements, as it killed a Mario at a lower % than in melee. Like I said before, DK has received the least change from melee to brawl, same speed same power so theres not much of a difference for this guy. However due to the game being more floatier, landing combos are reduced to a couple of hits this time. You can say DK is buffed a bit in Brawl due to his uair being more deadly. DK's bair, dair, and fair are pretty much the same like in melee. I think his f smash is a bit faster but otherwise its the same thing. His other smashes and tilts are the same too not much change here. So DK mains should expect the same ol' melee DK.
Moving on to specials, as I said before, DK is easily the character that received the least change so his specials are pretty much the same. However don't expect him to play the same. Remember this is a NEW smash game with the new mechanics and engine so expect some differences. DK's up B works pretty much the same as in melee, still has horrendous vertical recovery but covers an amazing amount of horizontal space. I haven't seen this move being used on the ground at all but it seems the power of this move is, sadly, weakened. DK's side smash received some nice buffs. It comes out quicker and the nice new feature for this is that while your foe is on the ground, instead of pounding them while stuck on the ground and until they come out, this time you can land a powerful blow and they will blow out of the ground, getting knocked back and all, which is a nice feature to have an opportunity to land a KO. DK's down B has also received some buffs. The move itself is stronger, thus doing more damage on players. It also starts faster and ends faster. Having doing more damage plus less lag means this move will be even more useful in team matches like the Alloy teams. Sadly DK's Giant Punch has received some nerfs. The power and knockback of this move isn't that great anymore, think Samus' new Charge. The punche's range is shorter and it kills at a higher percentage, which is sad because this move WAS a great killing move. The side B punch combo won't be useful for Brawl unfortunaley, but theres Side B F smash still. Shame DK's punch is weakned though, like Samus' Charge. EDIT: it seems Giant Punch has been fixed as it killed a Diddy at 112% but I'm not sure, we'll find out once we get the game.
His FS was originally thought to be useless, but this was not the case, as people were using it wrong. If you actually listen to the beats of the songs, and if you press the buttons at the right time, the range of the soundwave gets larger and larger, and the more perfect you land the button at the right time, the bigger it grows. The biggest it can grow is the whole battlefield, making this move a GREAT edgeguarding tool.
Overall DK plays very similar to his melee counterpart. Only his specials received many changes but his uair is buffed up. He is still a great power character, very strong, and in Brawl he may be stronger. DK mains, I would like to say that you won't need to rebuild your DK because of all the characters, DK is the one that is closest to his melee self. Although I would rely on his Giant Punch anymore if I were you, unless your opponents' % is really high.


Bowser
Get ready for this one, Because I have lots for this baddie, and this time, Bowser is A LOT AND A LOT better than his Melee counterpart. We all know that Bowser was so bad in melee. He was too slow, too laggy, and he's too large, making him a huge target. Sakurai saw this and spiced him up. At first when I saw Bowser in Brawl i was a bit worried because in Brawl Bowser is even more bigger than his melee self, and his size was one of the major problems Bowser mains faced. However this is not the case as Bowser is improved in almost every way possible. He is MUCH MUCH heavier making him even harder to KO. His size won't be a problem because Bowser is MUCH faster than in melee. I'm not talking about his running speed, he's still the sluggish koopa we all know, but he has received some MASSIVE buffs to his attacking speed. His attacks comes out much faster, and it ends faster too. Speed+Power that could mean he could be really high on the tier list. Still he isn't the BEST character but due to receiving massive buffs to his speed, I think he will be played a lot. He's also received some more super armors and Bowser can last even longer in battles. Before I go on super armors not only prevents you from getting knockedback but also does NO damage to you whatsoever.
Bowser has received major speed buffs on his A moves. His fair comes out quicker and ends even quicker. You can actually use this move a lot on the air and its still a great killing move. His bair seems difficult to land this time but it starts and ends faster so it shouldn't be a problem. This move still has its spiking potentials. Bowser's uair, which was his slowest move in melee, comes out MUCH quicker this time. It still has its killing potentials but unfortunaley it has less range this time. Bowser's neutral air is pretty much the same, just ends quicker. His dair is still not very good, but it sends out little shockwaves after landing.
Not ony he's received some air buffs, this time in Brawl Bowser is even more threathing on the ground. His foward tilts covers crazy amounts of range and after use his fist magically grows larger. Basically in melee all he did for his f tilt he just stuck out his knuckles, in Brawl this is much different. This time he leans foward punching your foe and his fist somehow grows bigger, doing more damage and knockback. Still its a pretty laggy move start to finish. Bowser's down tilt has received some nice changes. This move is much faster, has more range, and is much much stronger, thus making this move his strongest killing move. Bowser's tap seems stronger this time, and his second hit deals a good amount of knockbacks this time, giving you time to land another blow. Bowser's throws are the same thing basically, although his down throw probably wouldn't be good for combos due to the new physics engine.
What about his smash attacks? Well due to Bowser's new height, using his Up smash is a lot more useful. In melee it was used to KO someone on top of a platform. In brawl its no different, it covers more range on the top, making it easier to KO anyone on top of you. This up smash has a TON of range too. The damage ratio seems the same, but it still improved in many ways. His down smash seems to have gotten more range, but still the same move. Onto the deadlist smash attack, Bowser's Forward smash. This move was a killer in Melee and Brawl is no different. This time it covers MASSIVE range. However I think the power of this move has been nerfed, as it won't kill at 20% anymore. But its still a great killer move, able to kill at 40% or higher.
Bowser's specials received some change as well. You can still Up B out of your shield, but this move might have less knockback than before, so killing with this move will be more difficult this time. This was easily Bowser's killing move in melee, but in Brawl it got nerfed in terms of power and knockback. I think after using up B and landing, it still has the same landing lag, which is a downside. Bowser's down B got some nice buffs. It starts quicker, and upon landing, it has almost no, if not none at all, landing lag. Plus the power and knockback of Bowser Bomb is a lot better so it should be even more useful. You can still grab edges with this move. So his down B has almost no lag in start to end, unlike melee where it saw many many lags. We all know Bowser has a new side b move, its called flying slam. Basically you don't have the option to bite anymore. Once you grab your foe, instead of biting, he instead grabs them and leaps high into the air and slams onto the ground with them (imagine Charizard's Seismic Toss for you anime fans) upon using the side B, it has less startup lag and literally no lag after use. This move does an impressive 17% damage (or more) When you leap into the air, you can control the horizontal direction in the air to where he lands. You can go suprisingly far with this move, and its a great suicide killing move. This move, like I said before, suffers no to very little lag. Bowser's B, the fire breath saw some buffs. The nice thing about this is that you CAN actcually angle the fire up and down, which is just awesome. This is a great move whenever someone leaps to you, just use it and fire breathe on him/her, then angle the fire down and drag your foe to the ground, very cool if you ask me. Last time I checked, this time the fire WILL NOT die out, so I believe you can use it forever.
Finally, his Final Smash seems so awesome and so powerful, its broken. You DO take damage but you receive no knockback at all. It lasts 15 seconds and he covers like almost the entire battlefield. A very cool FS, Giga Bowser is very very VERY strong due to his new speed and power.
Overall Bowser has received MASSIVE buffs to his speed and some power. This Bowser is a HUGE improvements from the last one and for those who wanted to main Bowser in melee but couldn't because of his horrendous speed, you now have the opprotunity to main him in Brawl. He is heavier, faster, ,stronger, survives longer and kills at low percentages, making Bowser a deadly foe to mess with. Thank You Sakurai for majorly improving Bowser, expect some Bowser pros now, because this time, he has many chances to beat the snot out of Mario.

Hm...well, there goes all of the trouble I did to measure DK's Giant Punch percentages so I don't waste the blow...but maybe if I increase them all by 15-20%...

Don't worry, I added Snake to my list :] I've seen some Snake videos too but I'm going to need more info.
This time I'll move onto the newcomers that were present at the demos. After I cover all the starting rosters, I'll try to move onto the secret characters, but I'm going to need to watch more gameplays for those characters. The only secrets that i have almost enough info is Toon Link, Ness, and Falco.

MetaKnight
When he was first confirmed back in 2006, there was many joys among the MetaKnight fans. And they made a goal that they will main MetaKnight. If your one of those people and wish to main him and if you have any questions about MetaKnight, you've come to the right topic. So sit tight, get some popcorns, and hear my words.
MetaKnight certainly is fast, in terms of attacking speed. If you hold the attack button (A) you will do a rapid sequence of slices. Just press and hold the button. His attacks are unbelievebly fast and has almost no lags in start to end. I wouldn't call him a fast running character however, but he still has decent speed compared to some characters like Mario or Olimar. Many MetaKnight players claimed that he plays almost similar to Melee Kirby, but indeed MetaKnight is a lot stronger. He is classified as a light character so expect him to get knocked around easily. His air moves seems better than Kirby. MetaKnight can pull off some pretty neat combos. However dont expect his smash attacks and tilts to be a killer, its not great to KO at low %. This is one of MetaKnight's drawback, he can't kill at low %. His strongest moves can probably kill at a mere 190% or even higher. Strength isn't MetaKnight's main potentials but due to his tremendous attacking speed, you should be able to land as many attacks as you want, doing up to 50% each combo. Still his smashes has some good knockbacks, and it still kills, just at a higher %
MetaKnight's special moves are really useful. His B, the Mach Tornado, sucks up your foe in the tornado. It does good damage, but its knockback isn't that impressive. You CAN control the tornado, but for a little bit. After done using, MetaKnight falls to the ground helplessly. His Side B is impressive. You fly horizontaly and you can control the angle of him, going up or down. Supposedly the damage ratio is 30% if you land every single blows on your foe. The startup time is very low too, which makes this move really useful. After this move your supposed to go into an automatic glide. After you cancel your glide, you CANNOT use any moves, so keep that in mind while gliding. His down B is a teleport and strike move, sort of like a counter. You can use this move repeatdly on the air to bring you up a little, think Jigglypuff's rising pound. His Up B is the Shuttle Loop, which is a back flipping slice. This move has some killing potentials, and one of MetaKnight's strongest KO move, able to kill at low %. You can use this move to get out of your shield so expect some guard/loop slice combo. After use you'll go into your glide. I would say MetaKnight's special moves has the most potential out of every characters in Brawl because its useful, strong, and all 4 moves can be used to recover, even by little.
His FS is one of those where you have to aim at your character. Apparently you can capture more than one foe with his cape. The cape range seems really long so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Overall MetaKnight is just awesome. He's a great character when it comes to attacking speed. Strength may be a problem, but that can be fixed with his speedy combos. Plus he has immense recoverys, with 5 jumps plus one of his special moves can be used to recover, probably the best recovery character in the game, next to Jigglypuff. MetaKnight is a great character to use, and for those who are looking foward to maining him, I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you found this useful, future MetaKnight mainers!


Pit
Its Pit's turn now. When comparing Pit to MetaKnight, I'd say they are pretty similar. Well comparing Pit's attacking speed to him I'd say MetaKnight is far better. Pit still is a great character, he has great potentials in the air, moves pretty quickly, a useful projectile, and a tremondous recovery. When it comes to strength however, I'd say its like MetaKnight. Pit does have trouble landing kills at low %. For you Pit mains, do not worry, as there are some ways to make Pit strong, so lets get this started.
like MetaKnight, Pit's combos have some decent potentials. It may not have an impressive knockback, but its still does decent damages. Pit's tilts and smashes have quick startup time and ends quick too. But those smashes and tilts lack power. If I had to point out Pit's strongest move, I'd say they are his down smash, forward smash, and back air. They do have some killing potentials, but kills at higher %. If I were to main Pit I would first land some combos on my foes, and until their percent reaches at least 180%, I would use the f/d smash to finish them off. But thats just me, you can find your own way too, but I'm sure Pit's strongest moves are his F/D smash and bair. Pit has 4 jumps in total, unlike Kirby and MetaKnight, but he still has some great recoverys.
His specials are useful also. His Up B is an incredible recovery move. His 4 jumps plus his Up B makes his recovery tremendous. He can glide after use, but like MetaKnight, after glide canceling, you are completly vulnerable so remember that. If anything, I would say Pit's Up B is similar to Peach's floating abilty.
Pit's neutral B is super fast and strong too. It does have somewhat okay knockback, think Link's arrows. you can change the angle of the arrow after use, which is useful, but it moves very fast. These arrows can be spammed a lot so prepare for that.
Pit's other 2 special moves, his down B and side B, are unique and have something in common, they can be used to reflect projectiles. His Side B launches Pit forward and spins his bow. While it is spinning it reflects any projectiles launched at Pit. It does somewhat okay damage but I think knockback isn't that impressive. You can also change the duration of the move depending on how long you hold the special button. EDIT: Apparently you can use this move for as long as you want, making it even more useful. Maybe a good edgeguarding tool? oh well no matter I might main Pit just for his awesome side B. Pit's down B is really pecuilar. Basically it can reflect not just projectiles, but ANYTHING. Including Sonic's spin dash. This move can be held out forever and it can be considered like Pit's second shield, protecting him from regular attacks and its also unbreakable. However please consider the fact that his regular shield can block attacks only, his down B doesn't. Pit can be grappled out of this stance and can be hit from behind.
His FS is just summoning Palutena's army, which suprisingly, are strong, they can deal great knockbacks on your foes and great damages as well. One of my favorite FS IMO.
Overall Pit is a great character. Another great beginner character like Mario. He is almost balanced, pretty quick but lacks power. Besides power, Pit is really great in other categories and for you Pit mainers or beginners, maining Pit would be a piece of cake.


Diddy Kong
Diddy Kong moves pretty quick up and down. His running speed is excellent and his attacking speed is also decent. His combos have some great potentials, and its fast too. Like Pit and MetaKnight, he isn't much of a power type, more like combo type similar to MetaKnight. Still his kills are a bit better than MetaKnight's.
With the game being floatier, Diddy would have some advantages, because he moves quickly up and down. Like before, his combos have some potentials. His grabs seem pretty effective, I think a few can land some nice combos. Unfortunaly, Diddy's smash and air range seems to be lacking, so you'd have to get closer to land some blows.
His specials are pretty decent from what I saw. His up B can be charged, he will hover during its charging mode. Overcharging isn't a good idea I believe. You can angle which direction to move in. I think a fully charged up B you will go FAST and FAR. A major problem for this move is that once your hit while in the middle of this move, you will lose the jetpack and you CANNOT up B again until you land on the ground. His side B seems to cover some height and horizontal distances, so i think it can be a recovery move. Down B is bannana peel, and its not that useful, although I think it can be used to edgeguard so theres a plus. His peanut pop gun can be charged, but overcharging it means bad for you. Even if its charged it wont do a great deal of knockback and its pretty slow too. Maybe better to use as an edgeguarding tool?
His FS is a bit hard to control, but a bit easier than Pikachu's Volt Tackle or Sonic's Super Sonic. Basically you just fly into the air and shoot peanuts to the ground. These peanuts fire fast and deals great damage and knockbacks. It can be spammed on small stages. A great FS but takes time to master it.
Overall Diddy's an okay character. He is also another great beginnier character, minus his recovery because that does kinda takes time to fully master it and also takes time to find its true potentials. Still on simple stages beginniers should be able to use Diddy easily when starting the game. Diddy is a great character with its speed and combo. You can say he is like Mario from Melee.

Still he lacks power so theres a bit of challenge there if your not good with his combos. If you want to main him, don't think it'll be easy, because power is something he doesn't have.
I would focus on his combos and his air moves if I was to main Pit, since his air battles are quite impressive.

Zero Suit Samus
Before I go on, you CAN start a match with ZSS. Just hold R while its loading the battle.
Unlike Samus, ZSS lacks power but improved greatly in speed. Her attacks comes out really quick and her movements is pretty quick too. She isn't exactly the Sheik of Samus as many speculated, I would say ZSS has some potentials on her specials. Lets find out why.
She is classified as a Light class character, making her easy to mess around with (don't take that as the wrong way) apparently she can wall hop and crawl. (don't let her crawling ability turn you on).
Anyways, moving on. Her airs and tilts have some potentials. Apparently her strongest air move is her bair, able to kill Mario at 115%. Her bair does 12-14% damage (yes that IS strong for a light class) Her D smash is her shooting you at your feet, much like Snake's Down smash. Her tilts are pretty similar to Sheik/Samus. Her dash is a sliding kick.
Her neutral B, the paraylzer, seems pretty useful. If you charge it up and shoot, your opponent will be stunned and the longer its charged, the longer they will be stunned. Think the blaster item. A great move to land a fully charged smash attack.
Her side B and up B are really something. Her side B's tip is ZSS's strongest move. The tip is really strong, has high knockback, and its a great edgeguard tool. The damage ratio is 13-19% I think, gotta check on that again. I've seen this move being used a lot. Her side B can also be used as an alternate tether recovery, and the reach is pretty long so its safe to say that her recovery is impressive. I'd say its almost better than Samus' tether. Her up B is similar to her side B, still the tip is the strongest point. Great for star KOing your foe while they're in the air. I can see both of these moves will be used a lot for recovery and battle. Its also used as tethering.
Her down B is called Flip Jump. She stands on her hands and does a kick both in front and back of her. It can be used in mid-air also.
her FS was thought to be weak and useless, but it DOES have a lot of potentials. When your foes are near you, its an insta-KO, just get close to it and activate the FS, thats one way to use it.
Overall ZSS is a great character. She's like a weaker but faster Samus with improved recovery and special moves. She isn't anything like Sheik as many thought but her tilts are pretty similar to her. For those who loves speedy characters and those who thinks ZSS's side/up B will have a bunch of potentials, she is the character JUST for you. Of course, don't main her if your perverted, nah jk go ahead. :P

Better now, this time I'll finish the E4All demo characters and go into 3 other demo characters.

Sonic
I've always wanted Sonic in the Smash series, and when he was confirmed on 10/10/07, I was really really happy. :) I think I'll main him not only because I think he's cool, but because of his moves, which I think I'll master because of Jiggly's Rollout. What am I talking about? Well if your wondering anything about the blue hedgehog, feel free to read all this.
First, the important thing, Sonic runs very Very VERY VERY fast, even a lot faster than Captain Falcon and Fox. If I were to measure his speed, Sonic can run from one end of Final Destination to the other end in 0.5 seconds, imagine that folks! Sure we all saw it coming, Sonic will be fast, but I didn't imagine him to be THIS fast. He is easily the fastest character in Brawl. In fact, due to his speed, Sonic will be a hard character to control, which means he's aiming towards intermediate players. If your new to smash and you try out Sonic right away, watch out as you could EASILY fall off the stage. However if you ever master Sonic's speed and master his brakes, lets move on to his moves. Oh did I mention how fast Sonic is?
His air battles arn't impressive, but its average. I'd say almost below average. Still his air is something but his ground game is better. His Fair is like Pikachu's Fair but buffer. His other aerial moves are nice. From what I've seen in videos, his dair is really something. He stalls for a moment, then he shoots his foot downward. Its power is like Yoshi/Kirby's down B. This move does spike also. The downside of this move is that it stops after going a certain distance, it does NOT continue after landing. You can't L cancel this move, but its spiking potential is something. Other Sonic's air moves are pretty good but not nessceraily fast. Still his airs have decent amount of power and he isn't a weak but fast type of character as many thought he would be. He's more like a speed and average type, or like a Super Fast buffer Mario. All of Sonic's smash attacks are really useful. His Up Smash is a charged spin attack that goes straight up and catches people, then releases them, this move does have decent knockbacks. Sonic's F smash doesn't cover much range, but its knockback is amazing. His down smash covers a lot of range and has a lot of power, and it also hits on both sides. His smash attacks arn't the quickest but they do have a lot of power and knockbacks.
Almost all of Sonic's specials has to do with his spin attack. The neutral B, homing attack, where you home in onto your opponent. However this move has large amounts of start up time and many lags after use. His down B is like Jiggly's rollout without much knockback. However it should kill at very high percentages. His side B works like Yoshi's egg roll. You CAN jump in the middle of this move. A good combo for this move would be if you use this move and hit your foe, then jump, fair, and side B again for a 4 hit combo. Sonic's up B is the only move that doesn't let you grab the ledge after use. However after you start to land you can grab the ledge. Sonic's up B is unique because after use you are free to use your aerials and some other moves. Only SOME moves though. I don't think you can use his B moves after using his up B but you can use his fair or air dodges to recover more. I think his up B covers mostly vertical amounts, with almost no horizontal recovery.
His FS, Super Sonic is pretty good. You can only move around however and you cannot use his other moves. Super Sonic moves VERY VERY fast and its easy to kill yourself if your not careful. Super Sonic deals tremendous amounts of knockbacks and damages. An okay FS, hard to control like Pikachu's Volt Tackle. Master it and your one deadly hedgehog.
Overall Sonic is a very impressive character. Not only his speed is incredibly impressive but his knockback and power is also suprisingly amazing. Still he'll be hard to use due to his speed but once you master Sonic, I think you'll be a true Sonic mainer. Good luck to those picking the path of Sonic.


Ike
Time for Ike's impressions. I was quite impressed by Ike's gameplay. I say, Ike is impressive visually, his animations are quite impressive.
But now moving onto moves. Some people heard rumors that Ike isn't that great, they heard that Ike sucks. Don't lose hopes because he DOES have some downsides, but there are some good things about Ike. Let me tell you, Ike is strong, and not just regular kind of strong but Really REALLY REALLY STRONG. His strength has TREMENDOUS amounts of power. He KO's foes at much lower percentages than Bowser on average. Only a few of Bowser's moves seems to compete with Ike's power, but still almost, if not every one of Ike's moves are TREMENDOUSLY STRONG. Just like how fast Sonic is, thats how strong Ike is. Classified as a heavy power character. I believe his sword's sweetspot is the tip of the sword, and it does a lot of damage. Pretty similar to Marth in this case. For those who were wondering, he plays NOTHING like Marth or Roy from melee. Did I mention how strong Ike is?
Alright, so we all know, Ike is a major powerhouse, maybe close or a bit better than DK, Bowser, Dedede, and Wario. Ike is in the Top 5 powerhouses, and probably near, if not IS number 1.
Still, there are rumors that he is the strongest character in the game, because of his smash moves, tilts, aerials, and special moves. His grabs are also something cool looking. However, when talking about his speed, Ike is VERY SLOW in both movements and attacking speed, perhaps even slower than Ganondorf or Bowser. A slow but powerful character, that was pretty much expected. This could be the new physics engine, but he is, by far, the slowest character in the game. ALL of his aerials are slow, his tilts are slow, and his smashes are slow too. Ike REALLY lacks in speed, but still, its really strong. But after observing a few more videos and demos, let me clarify that Ike is NOT very laggy. Ike does NOT have a large amount of lag after his aerials, he just has slow activation time on them. This means that Ike will be a difficult character to use in competitive plays. HOWEVER have no fear, I believe in the final version the start up time has improved by a bit. As I saw some more Ike actions in the final versions, he did improved a bit from his E4All self. His F Smash is by far, the STRONGEST move in the game. A fully charged F smash is able to kill at a mere 14-19% (WTF?!?!) Lighter characters might even die at even lower % with this move. Enough about his A moves, all you need to know that its VERY powerful.
His neutral B is similar to Roy's neutral B. If you fully charge this move it should be an almost insta KO, due to this move having a large amount of knockback. This seems to be one of Ike's fastest move, but no, it isn't very fast sadly. His side B is actually useful, and its pretty fast. You can move across the stage quickly with this move. This side B is a powerful strike. Its similar to Pikachu/Pichu's side B but much less laggier and more useful. You can also use this move to recover with due to the new sweet spotting mechanics. However you can only use this move once in the air, so its not like Luigi's side B, more like Fox's side B. Ike's up B is pretty useful on the ground. He does have a nice amount of super armor when in use of this move. His up B is fairly fast and has a good amount of knockback. Ike's up B Aether is similar to Kirby's up B, but as a recovery move when compared to Kirby's up B, Ike's is horrendous. This is by far the worse recovery move in the game. when used to recover, you gain ABSOLUTELY NO horizontal distances at all, completely vertical. Stick to his side B when you need to cover any horizontal distances. You go straight up, and straight down really fast. Ike's counter comes out faster and it lasts longer too, which is both good and bad I guess. Ike's counter did more knockback than Marth's counter, but I'm not sure on the damage ratio.
His FS is really amazing, pretty much like Link's FS, with a cooler animation. He brings his foes to the air, slices them repeatedly, then after slicing them for like 20 times, he brings them down with great force, almost always a KO. Unlike Link's FS, Ike can slice more than one people.
Overall I'd say Ike is aiming torwards advanced players, due to his horrendous speed, immense power, and a HORRIBLE recovery. It'll take a lot of time to main Ike, but when you do, you will be one major powerhouse. Good luck maining Ike future Ike mainers. Don't get me wrong, Ike is still really good, but personally, I think he'll do better on 4vs. match instead of 1 on 1. On 4vs. matches he can just slice and smash and KO easily. On one on one he probably will have a hard time landing blows on his opponents.
I know I said that Ike is a very hard character to control and it sounded like that I think Ike is horrible, but to be honest, I think he's a really amazing character. Ike is a BEAST when it comes to free for alls due to his massive strength. His killing potentials are something too. I might try out Ike and see if I can main him, and Ike may have his downsides, but I think he's pretty unique due to his killing potentials.


Wario
From what I have seen, Wario is a heavy power character. His smash and tilts are really powerful and his airs are okayish. His dash is the classic elbow strike, which is pretty strong. I haven't seen many Wario videos, because I heard that he is underrated, which is sad, because Wario was one of my most requested characters, and I might secondary main him too. Not many videos on him, but if anyone can find a video where someone plays Wario really good, show it to me please and I'll do my best to cover as much as I can for Wario.
His special moves are a bit...strange. His neutral is Bite, where you simply take your foe into Wario's mouth and he bites on them. Its a bit similar to Yoshi's neutral when you start this move, but Wario's range for this move isn't that impressive compared to Yoshi's neutral B. You press the button to eat them, and press it again to spit them out. Projectiles can be eaten by Wario with this move. If a projectile stays in Wario's mouth, it will be swallowed and then recovers damage. The projectile can be spit back at your opponent if the button is pressed again. If not, Wario eats it. Wario's side B is similar to Yoshi's Egg Roll. Something unique about this move is that there can be only ONE bike in the battlefield. You can destroy his bikes until its broken into pieces. You can pick these pieces up and throw them at people. I don't know if these deals great knockbacks like Samus' armor pieces. His bike itself does a decent amount of damage however. His Down B, the Wario Waft, can be charged for 110 seconds! thats a minute and 50 seconds! Imagine what happens if you FULLY charge this move, ALL 110 seconds! Perhaps that Nuclear Fart we've seen at the first trailer? Nobody used Wario's up B in any of the videos that I saw, perhaps its because of the lack of Wario videos, if anyone knows, tell me ^^
His FS is pretty strong, similar to Bowser's FS, but smaller. When he is Wario Man, he is A LOT faster, he attacks quicker, and does more damage and knockback. I dont know how to fly though...oh and when Sakurai warned us not to use his bike, he wasn't joking, that move will kill you before you even know it. ITS TOOOOOOOOO FAST!!!! ahem...
so overall Wario's an okay character, but not that amazing either. Maybe Wario mains will find some use for him, maybe finding use for his tilts/smash combos? His grabs is something too so maybe Wario mains will find use for his grabs. Maybe his bite/fart too? Well all I'm saying is good luck Wario mains, Wario is a strange but unique character and if anyone ever masters Wario, I would be impressed. REALLY impressed.


next I'm moving onto Pokemon Trainer, for each 3 Pokemons. Olimar, Dedede, and Snake follows after them.
