I have XP on this thing, and my dad gave it to me for my birthday. When I go into "My Computer">"C:">"Documents and Settings", my dad's name is on a folder. But, I want to put MY name onto the folder because, well, it's MY laptop now.
I get this message: <Insert my father's name here> is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be moved or renamed.
So, It looks like I have to wipe the entire friggin' computer just to rename one stupid folder. |

Hmm... do you have administrative rights? If not.. I don't know
If you do, just rename the account itself, not the folder. The folder is used so the computer knows what goes where. |

I already renamed the account, but the folder still has my dad's name.

Just create a new one in the drive of your choice, then right-click onto the Dad Folder (It is that personal folder with the "My Videos", "My Music" etc. things in, or ?) and then select properties. Once in the properties, you can relocate the entire Folder into a new one. I did that when I had the normal Folder on C: but always used a personal one on Drive E: since the computer used to be shared. It relocated all files from C: to E: and made the folder the new Personal Folder, complete with desktop shortcut and "My Music", etc, subfolders.
Hope I could help !
Any questions, E-Mail or MSN at lorenz-becker@gmx.de . If this description doesn't cut it, I could do some screenies. |
