Iwata Asks is a really cool feature on Nintendo's site. The president of Nintendo interviews people involved with making some of Nintendo's biggest games. Here are links to all the Iwata Asks so far and some interesting facts from them:

Iwata Asks: Link's Crossbow Training
-They wanted to do a side story to Twilight Princess (like Majora's Mask was to OoT). Since that would take too long, they decided on a Wii Zapper game instead.
-Miyamoto has always been into First Person Shooters
-He proposed that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time be a FPS
-Link's Crossbow Training was considered a tool to get Japanese interested in FPSs.
-They wanted to justify Link having an rapid-firing weapon, so they considered giving him a gun from the future (like Terminator)

Iwata Asks: Wii Fit
-The Wii Balance Board design was inspired by how they weigh Sumo Wrestlers
-The original idea for Wii Fit was for DS, and you had to input your data manually.
-To save cost, the original design of the Board had you insert your Wii Remote. But they ended up creating a new wireless module that it can use. It is now easy to create new peripherals with built in wireless (Someone needs to tell Rock Band).

Iwata Asks: Super Mario Galaxy
-The idea for spherical worlds was originally planned for Paper Mario and then later for Doshin the Giant.
-Coins were originally going to be everywhere, but Miyamoto wanted coins to have a purpose, so they were limited and given recovery ability and star bits were added everywhere.

Iwata Asks: Mario Kart Wii
-The original prototype for Super Mario Kart was not a Mario game, but the driver did have overalls
-They actually made a gold Wii Wheel


Iwata Asks: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
-Final Smashes were originally planned for the first Smash Bros. and some of the voices recorded for them then are now used in Brawl.
-Orginally, Super Smash Bros did not have Nintendo characters and was called Dragon King: The Fighting Game (which reminds me of my Battle League game)
