All the wars that we have had since World War II: Vietnam, Korea, Persian Gulf War, War in Iraq, are not declared wars. The last declared war, was World War II. Congress didn't approve of any of those wars, and didn't declare war. Instead the presidents of those times, believed that he should go ahead and send troops to those areas and call it a "miliatary conflict". That way, a president could wage war, by simply changing it's name and appealing to congress and the rest of the people, that it wasn't a war.
The media and many people of the world, have interpreted these "conflicts" as an actual war. We believe that it is a war, but little do we know, Congress had not made the declaration to go to war, but the previous presidents have taken action into their own hands.
What ever happened to those Checks and Balances that our founding fathers created? Why don't presidents go through Congress to declare war any more (Well technically they don't declare war anymore but wage it)?
I believe that they don't go through Congress any more, to declare "war" simply because they don't want war to not be declared. If Congress vetoes this, then it may have an effect on the media, who will then tell other people, and other people may dislike or like the idea of going to war. Simply, the president could avoid all of that, and start sending troops over to other places for a "military conflict." The Checks and Balances, have sort of disappeared in this issue, since the issue of "war" has taken place.
Do you believe that the president should be incharge and call their own wars, or do you believe congess should declare war? |

They weren't declared? ...Oh, screw that.
No way. Congress should approve war. |

It really shows how our leadership has really crumbled over the past several years. For every era of prosperity, a wind of ruin comes and sweeps it under rubble.
Congress should have full authority over all situations, not the president. The opinion of 100 and then some should be much more well-founded, solid, and overall well-done than one man and a select group of often like-minded individuals.
Truly America has become divided. How unfortunate... |
