Okay, it was agreed that I would put up today's discussion thread. This one is about Marth. Please keep it civil, and post with substance ("MARTH IS PWNZ K" or "MARTH SUCKS" in simplicity is not welcome). Let's hear your thoughts, as well as the reasoning behind them, and have a productive character discussion.

So... Here we go. Marth was my main in Melee, and serves as my secondary main in Brawl. I'm interested to see what some others have to say regarding this character.
The sword-wielding, Lord-class hero of a couple of the games in the Fire Emblem series also takes the fighting stage in two of the Smash Bros. titles. His games are only out in Japan right now, but of course, thanks to Smash he's gotten a lot more attention internationally.
What aspects of the character as a fighter have both improved and been nerfed in the transition from Melee to Brawl? What do you see to be his strengths and weaknesses on the battlefield? And finally, what do you think about his role in the Subspace Emissary (team-up with Ike and Meta Knight)? |

Recently I've been using Marth again and I'm pretty good with him as well. I 'mained' him in Melee but now I main random :> His range has gotten a lot shorter, but his power has been buffed. His recovery is better and overall Marth has been buffed in almost any way except for his range, which isn't a big problem for me |

Me's pretty letahl if you know how to use him. His B attacks, if chained, can be unnaturally scary. But he's okay, I'd say. |

Marth. Hmm....I don't really use him at all. I usually fight him as a lv. 1 CPU. His final smash is deadly, but it's easy to commit Marthicide. I like his Side B Down Combo best out of all his moves. |

I find Marth to be one of the most dangerous opponents I've faced. Some people including one of my best friends, are incredibly good with him and the chaining is great. |

Marth's got deadly combo's if you use him right, though I swear they made his reach shorter in Brawl. They only reason why I don't like him as much as I should is because I honestly think his aerials aren't that powerful. |

Marth was heavily nerfed from Melee, Shorter reach, in turn he has gained fluidity, Faster and stronger. Blah blah blah. it may overall seem like a buff, but originally Marth's long reach was his major selling point (at least over Roy)
Interesting change is his neutral special has gone from a swing to a thrust ( accurately so his weapon is a rapier), but Its important to use his special moves and normal moves in fluid conjunction, using his down Special, Counter to break strong offenses. Marth still falls under the middle range charecter classification simply because a deal of his techniques allow him to "travel". Marth has weak throws, that can be used to start combos. and isn't the greatest in the air, but can hold his own.
His Final Smash, Critical Hit, Ranks among one of the more powerful attack final smashes. Causing any he collides with usually an instant death + 60 damage ( Some Anti-flinch attack like aether prevent them from being knocked back, but the damage still goes through). He can however kill himself easily during this attack.
Overall Most Marth users should know when to counter, And most people fighting Marth should know when not to attack. Some Caution should be used when fighting Marth.
On a side note, Mainers should practice recovery methods with the dancing blade. |

Not true. if you press B while traveling through the air, marth will swing early. altervatively, you can just use it on the ground which, unless you're on a walk stage, will save you. |

Well, let's go.
I wasn't very good with Marth and I'm still not. I've always preferred the bulkier counterparts Roy and Ike. But I'll say, despite the massive nerf to the range, Marth is much better in Brawl. Because he serves his purpose as a speed-based character better, with swifter combos. His FS is often considered a reason to say he is cheap, but along with how wrong can it go and how avoidable it can be, it must be mentioned Marth has a hard time with getting Smash Balls. |

Well, I think that Marth has both good aerial and ground game. He's faster than a lot of characters on the roster, and most of his moves have very little lag. Normally a quicker character lacks power, but the tip of his sword provides some strength. For some weaknesses, he doesn't have any projectiles to use by himself, and he is also one of the lighter characters in the game, so he can die pretty early on sometimes. |
