Tournaments have potential to be a great feature... but right now, only official tournaments have had any success. User-created tournaments can get 8-16 people to sign up, but once the tournament starts, nothing happens. No matches are held until eventually everyone forgets it even exists.

Right now the owner is responsible for keeping it going. I could make this easier by auto-defeating people who do not complete their match in time. Or, automatically send out reminders to people to play thier match. Or... I could just remove the ability to create a tournament and only have official digibutter francis-backed tournaments.

So, would anyone be opposed to clearing out all the tournaments and only having official tournaments from now on? Do you have a better idea? Let me know!

These two ideas are better. Don't delete tournaments. People either lose interest or forgets about it.
The only reason the official are popular is because the REWARD dammit, I mean, Wii points, who doesn't want that?
Or maybe there could be a way for everyone to see a new tournament? Like you always put Official tourneys on the front page?

Yeah, wouldn't this work? I mean, like weekly make a topic in gaming with news about all the new contests. Or, you could delegate that to someone else.

Also, there should be an automatic reminder. Becuase the topic could be used to inform people, but without reminders it'll sink. I dunno, maybe an automatic weekly reminder?

Don't delete user created tournaments, but I like the idea of having reminders or 'auto timeouts'.

Perhaps you can add another section on the index page, next to pictochat and cookies, that lists the 5 newest tournaments that are open for entry? That would probably get them some more attention.

The problem is not getting people to sign up so much as it is getting people to actually compete in them after they start.
And if the tournaments auto-timeout, what is the point if everyone auto-timeouts?

Then it would keep people from not competing, as everyone loses coins if no one competes.

This.

One way we could fix the problem of a reward is that users could start gifting people games as a reward.

And also, Francis, if you're going to disqualify people who don't start their match, what will Creepy and I do? He SAYS he's in the hospital and that he'll let me know when we can start, but he hasn't let me know for a while. What should we do? O Chunks said we could wait, but...
