This is a sad end to the story of Mythos. You might remember that this was the MMO being devloped by Flagship Seattle, a studio led by a band of ex-Blizzard employees, many of whom worked on the Diablo games. When Flagship floundered and died in 2008, the game was catapulted into limbo. Some months later it was given new life by Asian publisher HanbitSoft, who owned the IP and wanted to bring it to the Asian market. The game finally found its way to Europe via Frogster, who published it in April this year. Now, however, the company has announced that Mythos’ “long-term success unfortunately did not follow”. Consequently the game will be shut down at 11am UK time on the 27th of this month. Former Mythos players will all get vouchers for Frogster’s other game, Runes Of Magic.

What a shame. Another dead world committed to the abyss.

You can download the client here, and play for as long as you please with your entirely wallet stowed for the duration. What an age we live in! How far we’ve come. How far we’ve come from prehistoric times, when early man would have to make his own fun by seeing how many rocks he could fit in his mouth.

PC Gamer have spotted a launch trailer and I’ve put it after the jump, but it’s so naff that watching it filled me with a paralysing loss of self-worth. So far so good.

We would be hard-pressed to think of two things on this planet we love more than Mythos (the Flagship Studios-developed MMO which was acquired by Frogster and HanbitSoft last year) and pure, unrestrained candor. That's why we're psyched by the announcement for Mythos' upcoming "Hack and Crash" beta stress test event, which will fling open its doors to new waves of testers, in order to (according to a Frogster press release), "test the capacity of the servers, which may well crash as a result." So up-front! So honest! So forthright!

You can still sign up for the beta if you want to be part of the server apocalypse -- or, you know, if you want to see how the game has changed under its new ownership. So long as there's still hacking and/or slashing, we think we'll be okay with the other adjustments.
