I think I finally figured it out. Name changing killed it. It let people change to their real online names and joke names while abandoning their original Mario names. Not only does this mean they start back on square one with their reputation, but for some reason I feel distanced from the person all together. I too was even guilty of changing my name for a time, and even then I felt strangely uncomfortable posting under it. I used to feel like this community was bonded somehow. Like I knew everyone and every one knew me. It was like some kind of online family or something. But then name changing came along and a lot of people changed. Even today I couldn't even remember who Francine was when I logged in until I checked under in their profile. I mean how pathetic is that? I've known this member for a few months now and I can't even recognize them when I log in? I can understand some people might have accidentally typed in their name wrong when they signed up, and in that way the item is helpful. But when we are at the point when we can't even recognize our friends without looking in their profiles, can we even call ourselves a community?

Like I said, if you wanted a different name right after you joined then yes it is very helpful in that way.

I think that name-changing ruine the forums, too. You log on an on't know who's who. I think Francis shoul remove the item, an give it only tot hose with a valid reason for changing.
