Well the United States was founded on Christian principles, and so there are traces of it in the government. One can not totally seperate God and nation. On average, the country as a whole is a Christian nation so the government decided that formally recognizing marriage would be a good thing, as married couples usually bring forth families, and all is well.
But now there are many people who want marriage to mean whatever they want... so, the government is pressured to expand marriage to mean other things. And the debate rages on... |
