This year some great classics have hit the Virtual Console. Some real gems that you may have never played before and are more than worth the few Wii Points to download.
The nominees are:
Sin and Punishment
If you’re after a reference point to get a better idea of what S&P is about, think of Starfox crossed with Space Harrier and you’re almost there. For the first time outside of Japan, you can experience the non-stop action of this Nintendo 64 classic
Contra III: The Alien Wars
A SNES one-hit-kill run-and-jump with big guns. Awesome hardcore co-op action, and a difficulty not seen in modern games (except Contra 4)
Super Mario Bros 3
With eight huge worlds to navigate, countless secrets to discover and even a cooperative or competitive two-player mode, Super Mario Bros. 3 truly deserves its status as one of the greatest games ever made.
Donkey Kong Country 2
The best of the series. Fantastic soundtrack, great level design, polished graphics, and a good challenge.
Paper Mario
Finally, all Paper Mario games playable on one console! Witty dialog, fun RPG gameplay, and crisp graphics.
ActRaiser
Its action and simulation modes give you almost two games in one. As one of the first SNES games, the music was epic and way ahead of its time.

It felt good to play the first Paper Mario again... so that gets my vote. It was close between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Paper Mario, though. |
