It's just a common PHPBB glitch that says you have 65535 new messages.

Ironically, that's the highest number for y axis in Microsoft Excel.

It probably needed a number to represent infinity.

No, 65535 is the highest number that can be represented by a two-byte unsigned integer variable. This glitch seems to happen with a lot of forums that use the PHPBB format.
Wait, did you say there actually were 65535 PMs in your inbox?

I doubt it if there were actually 65535 messages in the inbox.
