I'm joining, but there's a problem.
Friend matches are usually done in Grand Prixs, i.e. 4 races (of chosen tracks) are done per 'session'. Depending on your rank in the race, you get some points and at the end of the Grand Prix, the player with the most points wins.
However, if it's 1 on 1 and both players win 2 races each, then it becomes a tie.
So maybe 1 on 1 races isn't the best idea...

1 on 1s are boring, but it could work... I like the first idea. But the second one COULD work...but I'm leaning towards the first, even if its 1 on 1.
Ane one more question, are you allowing us to use both bikes and karts? Because some courses could give karts advantages (Wario's Gold Mine, Rainbow Road) while other courses give bikes big advantages (Luigi Circuit, Delfino Square). Personally, I think this won't work, because in some courses the winner is almost always obvious if theres one person using bikes and the other using karts.

Rules will be clarified before the tournament begins... i just got the game today, so I don't know how the format should be yet. Please contribute your ideas though, i want this to be fun, but I also dont want people to feel cheated.

I think it should be up to the racers to get together themselves and decide. Make it like Brawl, where they have to choose the stage and items, stock, time, etc... Except now, stage, random, kart, bike, and a lot of other things.
