Just 100%'d Silksong

I just 100%'d Hollow Knight: Silksong, woohoo! 63h59m on my save file. Technically, I still have the Hunter’s Journal to complete for the final memento, the Hunter’s Memento, but that’s a tedious task for another day. I would link to back when I 112%'d Hollow Knight, but I think I only posted that to NerrChat.

I really enjoyed this game. Compared to Hollow Knight, I feel it has both higher highs and lower lows. I don’t think it’s necessary for me to get too in-detail about that because after six months since the game’s release, you can read all about that elsewhere on teh interwebz. TL;DR: Some of the runbacks are annoying, and it’s really not necessary to lock certain bosses behind tedious arena battles. Controversial opinion: Bilewater really isn’t as bad as it’s hyped up to be. To be fair, I did put the area off until towards the end of Act II because of everything I’d read online, but again, I really don’t think the area’s as awful as it’s made out to be. Also, the music there is beautiful; it’s a nice juxtaposition against the poison-swampy environment.

I really enjoyed the couple of little tie-ins there were connecting HK and Silksong. I think it’s really satisfying when thematic sequels nod to the previous title in some shape or form. Seeing the Hollow Knight return in his void form at the end of the true ending was awesome. Plus, Mister Mushrom made his own grand return.

Some quick thoughts on the bosses, I’ll spoiler tag this too:

Skarrsinger Karmelita was probably the toughest fight for me. Though, once I figured out the strategy was just to stop thinking and spam attack with wanderer’s crest, things got a whole lot easier. Lost Lace, the true final boss was fun, probably close in difficulty to Karmelita. Grand Mother Silk, despite being the final boss of Act II, was ridiculously easy. I understand this may be because of the no heal constraint in getting the cursed ending, but I was even able to do that in just a few attempts. Lastly, Groal the Great was just annoying, but like so many of the other bosses in this game, just run away and heal in the corner, and everything will be fine.

Lastly, at first I wasn’t sure about how I’d feel about this game’s heal system where you heal three masks at a time instead of one, but honestly, I think I actually prefer this style to HK. I found myself not fussing so much about always being at full HP and getting more into waiting for strategic heals. Oh, also, Wanderer’s Crest FTW! I tried Reaper’s Crest for a while before I unlocked Wanderer’s, but it was just too slow to attack. What’s you nerr’s favorite crests?

Not a ton left to say as it’s nearly 1:00 AM for me, but we can use this as a Silksong discussion thread if anyone else has any comments. I believe @francis mentioned playing Silksong some time ago. @Ackari and I seemed to be keeping up with each other in completion on Steam for a while, but I ended up beating the game first. Thanks for reading all that!

Just finished the Hunter’s Journal, so now it’s really over until the free DLC comes out (in April?)
