Nintendo Alarmo: The coolest piece of standalone tech from Nintendo since the Pokemon Mini

So, on October 9th 2024, Nintendo randomly announced a new piece of Hardware. Not a Nintendo Switch successor, or some new dual-screen system, but instead an interactive Alarm Clock Console called “Alarmo” that could do a whole host of things!

It has motion sensing to track when you’ve gotten out of bed, a Wi-Fi chip to allow for system updates, free content additions, and new functions, and on top of that it has a cool LED light on top of the system’s main action button, which shines different colors depending on the situation and option selected.

The system is primarily a digital clock with various interactive elements all themed around various Nintendo Switch games! These include:

  • Alarm: Select a game and a specific scenario to wake up to! Say for instance, Chain Chomps at Fossil Falls, fighting Salmonoids in Salmon Run, or taking down a Bulborb using a team of Pikmin in the Sun Speckled Terrace!

  • Hourly Chime: Have various characters mark the top of a new hour, say Mario hitting Question Blocks to get a Life-Up Heart, or a Rescue Corp member plucking a series of Pikmin.

  • Sleepy Sounds: Get into bed with some laid-back tunes from various parts of the Nintendo universe, like Honeylune Ridge from Super Mario Odyssey, or the “end-of-day” theme from Pikmin 4.

  • Records: This menu acts very similarly to the 3DS’s activity log, but instead of tracking steps, it tracks your movement during sleep, how long it takes you to get up, and how long you rested for each night!

There’s five theme’s included out of the box, with seven scenario’s for each theme, these being, Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Ring Fit Adventure, Splatoon 3, and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

Additionally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing New Horizons are expected to come to the system via a free update later this year. Although not announced, it can be expected that even more Nintendo Switch titles with be added to Alarmo, as the system doesn’t go to retail until Spring of 2025, so they have months to add more content to the system.

I hope they add themes for Luigi’s Mansion 3, ARMS, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, WarioWare: Get it Together, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, all of those would be great to see!

I find it to be a very wacky gizmo, I’ll probably buy it in a few years once people are reselling them on ebay

Fun fact: I heard somewhere that, if you somehow stay in bed for 20 minutes or so after the alarm starts with the BOTW theme on, it plays the Guardian encounter music. Why couldn’t they just make it play sooner though to get you moving?
But seriously, the Alarmo is cool, wish they did a lot more with it. (Like, say, a bit like a Game & Watch)
