Pikman’s pretty far down my backlog, so I have no idea. Only really played a bit of Pikman 3 co-op back when that was new.

I haven’t played the smartphone game Pikmin Bloom since it first came out, but apparently it explains that you need to use the phone camera because can’t see them with our eyes. I doubt that game is canon though. Briefly mentioned on the website:

that’s right, pikmin are invisible to humans. i believe nintendo’s thought process behind pikmin in the first place was they’re the reason why things are never where you left them

In the older games (1/2) it’s implied earth is basically dead by then, although Nintendo is kinda losing it eith Pikmin right now
