Super Paper Mario 2 gameplay ideas

I’m thinking they would keep the flipping mechanic but it flips from the 2D digital-style world to a more analog papery style 3D world. Or like a portal between the two like Mario Odyssey’s 8-bit pipes. Each could have a different battle system and the same items/badges could have different purposes in 2D vs 3D.

The optimism is strong in this thread. I’m here for it!

I think the flip meter would be done away with and Mario would be able to take his time in 2D/3D mode. I’d love to see switching between platforming and turn-based combat. I think that would be really fun. Would we see a return of the pixl partners or just use badges? What’s the story/location this time? Dimension hopping and saving the multiverse again from a Dimentio revived by the Pixl Queen and/or Shadoo?

Most importantly: Will we see a Francis appearance?

What made me think about going from SPM-style to TTYD-style was the fact that SPM apparently used the same game engine as TTYD. So why not go all out and flip between games?

Also the Spinias in TTYD look out of place and like they came from SPM, so maybe there already is some lore that connects the two games…
