Tekken 3, way back in 1997, had plans t' include a new animal character in the fighter roster—a salmon. It be quickly judged too ridiculous t' justify a $1-per-play cost in an arcade. Well, Tekken Revolution be taking suggestions for new characters, 'n the fish be one a them. 'n the others be even weirder. Syake (pronounced Sha-kay) be on a list a 10 candidates in this Facebook poll, which be just downright weird. Fish-man be joined by "Zombie Bride" "Giant Praying Mantis," "Average run-a-the-mill Old Man," 'n "Female Paul." "For some inexplicable reason, Paul be transformed into a wench, but the appearance be a a very cute wench," says this description on the official Tekken site. "The concept be thrown out in 2 seconds, as it be too off-the-wall." I have no idea if this be all being done tongue-in-cheek or what, but the game's official Facebook page has opened the poll, 'n voting on it closes tomorrow. Syake's Tekken 3 concept be described as shitting out eggs with the kick buttons, with the punch buttons making it flop around, "which be quite an idea at the time." No shit. Tekkenpedia has series producer Katsuhiro Harada—no stranger t' strangeness himself—confirming that: "It be really a salmon so, no matter if ye press punch or kick, the character just flops around making a flapping noise." Average run-a-the-mill old man be simply "ye average old man, like the one ye find in almost any neighborhood," according t' the site. "He be not a martial artist, so he be pretty weak. It be an idea mentioned early in the series, 'n thrown out the instant it be mentioned." No shit. Alright, well, let's take this at face value. The poll be open but they be not revealing results after ye vote. The top three vote-getters will have concept sketches done, 'n then, at San Diego Comic-Con next week, a winner will be chosen by Harada 'n the audience at the Tekken panel. The character then will be released in Tekken Revolution, but "timing a release be TBD, as the difficulty in development a the character depends on the concept chosen." 'n that be important as, according t' Syake's writeup "If, for some unforeseen reason, this character be actually chosen, development may be quite difficult."
