Father-son bonding goes horribly right as Patrick and Brad pick off house guests one by one.

Demon-child adventure-horror Lucius has appeared on the various digital distribution platforms today. I reviewed it a couple of weeks back, and you can read that here. In short: it’s a fascinating game which perhaps misses some of things that could have made it great. Not really scary, but still an interesting achievement by the tiny Finnish team. I can’t wait to see more from them.

Lucius arrives on the 26th of October, just in time to be played as you close the curtains and ignore trick or treaters on Halloween. It’s a 3D adventure inspired by horror classic The Omen, and it’s been developed by three-man Helsinki-based, Shiver Games. But are spines chilled? Are hairs raised? Most importantly: are brains teased? Having played an early copy of the game I feel obliged to tell you Wot I Think.

Imagine a palatial mansion estate. Inside dwells a fortunate, wealthy family: a mother, a father, a little boy. Servants go about their business, a gardener tends the garden. It is, in short, the life of the well-to-do. In the kitchen, the little boy watches as a maid enters the spacious walk-in freezer. Once she's well out of sight, the boy calmly shuts the heavy, polished steel door behind her, snaps a padlock on the latch, spins the thermostat to well below freezing, and walks away.

The boy's name is Lucius, and here's the kicker: he's the protagonist. In other words, in this game, he's you.

The Ladies & Gentlemen aboard the VG247 newsblimp have beamed up another interesting minor announcement, which is that Shiver Games’ spooky Omen-like horror game Lucius, in which you play a demon-child offing people in a country house, is to arrive in October. It’s an open world thing, which gives you the run of the house, allowing you some invention in how you kill off characters before your journey to hell. Looks both worrying and intriguing.

The accidents that occur when Lucius is around are more than just a bad omen.

There have been all sorts of horror games over the years, including plenty that made no sense at all, but never have I seen one that lets you play as the archetypal “creepy child” from various works of horror fiction. An oversight, perhaps. It’s all to change come “Q4 2011″, however, as Lucius sees you playing as the son of the devil, given the task to kill all the residents of a mansion without letting anyone guess that you are responsible. Interesting concept right? From the looks of things it’s taking a leaf or two out of Agent 47′s notebook, and has nods to The Exorcist and The Shining in this sinister trailer from Gamescom:(more…)

There's something special about nailing a "Silent Assassin" ranking in the Hitman series. It means you've attracted zero attention to yourself and completed a mission without setting off any red flags. Lucius, a new adventure from Shiver Games, takes the titular son of the devil and gives him a list of people to kill without drawing attention to himself in this same style. Oh yeah, and he's only six...
