Super Mario Land, the iconic Mario game for the original Game Boy, is not the typical target for player-crafted redesigns, but here we are. Arne Niklas Jansson has taken a a 24-year-old classic portable game and made it look like an indie PC game released last week. Jansson explains the entire process of tweaking a relatively-beloved classic into something more to his liking on his site. The 3DS eShop has calmed down significantly after a few weeks of overflowing bounty, offering a single original game for download this week, 3D Solitaire. There is good news for people looking for a deal on previously released material, as the "Month of Mario" knocks a dollar off the price of Super Mario Land on Virtual Console.

Everything's smaller and weirder in Super Mario Land. Smaller because the quest is shorter. The enemies are shrimpier. And Mario himself is standing only a handful of pixels tall, taking up just a fraction of the available area on an already shrunken screen. And weirder because everything Mario comes across here just seems a little off...
