Luckily, the sequel is already confirmed and on its way already, but I admit I almost want to see what Silicon Studio could do on a home console with Square Enix's resources, even with just a mid-sized digital download game.

Rating Summary: This is a role-playing game in which players help a band of heroes save the fantasy kingdom of Luxendarc. From a 3/4 overhead perspective, players traverse the land, explore dungeons, and engage in turn-based combat against human characters and fantasy creatures (e.g., goblins, dragons, giant insects). Players use weapon attacks and abilities that are depicted with light effects, slashing sounds, and mild explosions; more elaborate attacks (e.g., summoning spells) are depicted with short animated sequences. A handful of scenes depict instances of blood: a blood-like effect as a monster is slashed across the stomach; bloodstains on an enemy's sword. During the course of the game, the dialogue contains references to suggestive material (e.g., “I would be happily obliged to make space in my own bed for you,” “At this rate I shall be compelled to clasp you to my breast, and plant a kiss upon your lips”). The game includes occasional references to wine and beer usage; a barkeeper and patrons are depicted drunk in several text/dialogue interactions.

Perhaps you were also reminded of Ni No Kuni's excellent world-map music. Bravely Default is a great start for this new Square Enix franchise, and proves that allowing other developers to craft the types of RPGs that have been long-missed by the Final Fantasy company's fans can lead to extremely positive results. This is one game any RPG fan should be setting money aside for, whether they already own a Nintendo 3DS or not.
