#callofduty It can be easy to become desensitized to Call of Duty's brand of realistic-yet-cartoonish violence. As motion-captured video-game dudes blow each other away over and over again, whatever I'd normally feel at watching that kind of carnage melts away. I see the game for what it is, and it stops having an impact. More »

Coming from Treyarch...

Going to do some Double XP in Headquarters during Double Weapon XP weekend. Let's see if we can get you guys to try out something other than TDM.

Thanks to Cal619guy for the heads up!

Xbox exclusivity on the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 DLC has ended, meaning PC and PS3 players can now nab the "Revolution" pack. For $14.99, "Revolution" collects four multiplayer maps, a new Zombies locale - with a mode in which you play as the undead - and the Peacekeeper sub-machine gun.

The map pack is also included in the Black Ops 2 season pass, which promises four DLC map packs throughout 2013, in addition to Nuketown Zombies, the first DLC released for Black Ops 2 so far.

Well, that was very fast indeed! The issues from yesterday's Call of Duty patch have now been patched themselves. You can start up the game and get things working as they should. Thanks to all that sent this in!

As was said last week, another patch was heading to Call of Duty: Black Ops II on Wii U. There was talk of it seeing release early this week. I guess Monday is pretty damn early! Pop the game in and you'll be prompted for the update, as long as you're online. Thanks to all that sent this in!

I know many of you will be spending the weekend tending to your winter-blasted shoots as you celebrate the feast day of Serenus the Gardener, or perhaps remembering Red Army Day by engaging in tabletop recreations of the Battle of Kiev or, for the more ambitious, Operation Bagration. Commendable pastimes, I’m sure, but if the dusty red blocks that represent Soviet armoured divisions are lost in the attic, or Serenus’ spirit is locked in the frozen turf, then you may be interested to hear that Gratuitous Space Battles is free to play on Steam until Sunday 9PM GMT.

Our next patch has been submitted to Nintendo. Due to the short week (Presiden't Day holiday in the US), we don't anticipate this going live this week. We are hoping for early next week. Patch notes will be updated once we have approvals in from Nintendo and the patch is ready to go live. I will not be giving information on what is included in the patch until that time.

Thanks to Cal619Guy for the heads up!

Not that long ago, we detailed an update heading to the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. That update is now live for all to get. Just fire up your game and you'll be prompted to download before you play or in the background. Thanks to Slider64 for the heads up!

#activision Even the massive money-making game publisher Activision lays off people from time to time, as the company confirmed today that they've cut about 30 jobs from their global work force. Kotaku first heard that the cuts were affecting Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops II, but a spokesperson for Activision said that a good number of the cuts were from outside of Treyarch, from the parts of the company involved with licensed games. A portion of a Vooks review...

With the amount of new features that the GamePad brings to the table, both online and offline, it’s encouraging to see a third party developer create a complete game for launch. We heartily recommend this one.

The "Revolution" downloadable content pack for Call of Duty Black Ops 2, already available on Xbox 360, arrives February 28 on PlayStation 3 and PC. The pack is priced at $15 across all platforms and is also available through the $50 Black Ops 2 seasons pass bundle.

Revolution includes four multiplayer maps, a new Zombies map and mode, and a weapon. It still does not add a special place in the afterlife for no-scope snipers.

As the old saying goes, “the revolution will not be televised.” Nonsense – it’s not only on your TV screen, but it will be interactive, too. Revolution, the first DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, arrives on PlayStation Network on February 28 – and there’s more inside this collection than you may be expecting.

8465121987_de413de666_z.jpg
Revolution offers a heck of a lot of content for both multiplayer and Zombies fans. First up are the four multiplayer maps:

  • Hydro: Located in Pakistan, this hydro-electric plant comes complete with a lethal spillway that floods with very little warning.
  • Grind: Set in a skate park in Venice Beach (the birthplace of skateboarding!), quarter-pipes and curved surfaces drive players away from easy cover and into intense firefights.
  • Downhill: A ski resort in the French Alps, this snowy map is complete with a moving gondola system that can both offer cover and crush you to death.
  • Mirage: Located in China’s Gobi Desert, this luxury resort has been ravaged by a sandstorm.

8466217728_7ac8aecd2f_z.jpg

It’s worth noting that Mirage is also the first Black Ops II map where Domination takes place in a triangular flag pattern instead of a linear one – that is, you can run laps around the main hotel (or cut through it) as you try to capture the three flags at three different corners of the map. You may find this changes up your Domination strategies a bit.

As a bonus, Revolution also contains the first downloadable weapon in Call of Duty history. The Peacekeeper SMG has the small form factor of a compact submachine gun, but the range of an assault rifle. It’s actually rated two points higher in range than the longest-range SMG in the game, the MSMC. It’s not the overpowered monster that I think some gamers were afraid it might be, but it will likely become a very popular choice for the short-to-medium range specialists out there. And once you level it up along with the rest of your SMGs, it too can sport gold and diamond camos.

8466218398_3de4975de0_z.jpg
If you are a Zombies fan, Treyarch has some secrets and surprises in store for you, too. Die Rise is an all-new Zombies level that takes place in a shattered skyscraper; one false move might send you right over the edge in a very literal and non-metaphorical sense. The verticality of this level makes it feel unlike other Zombies experiences; you’re constantly finding new places above and below, exploring the rubble, locating parts for buildables, and even finding surprises in the very unsafe elevators. Some of those surprises are good, and some of them…well, just be prepared for anything, okay?

8465121271_7d81b4b205_z.jpg

Last but definitely not least, Revolution offers a new way to play Zombies altogether, in the form of a new mode called Turned. Throw out your expectations for a strategic and calculating Zombies experience – this one’s all about adrenaline. Up to four players can join in; one is human, the other three are zombies. The winner of the match is the person who can survive as the human the longest. A Reverse Gun Game weapon loadout means that the human switches from powerful to weaker weapons as their turn continues; whichever zombie player can take out the human becomes the human themselves. It’s very fast, very frantic, and makes a great short experience for those times you want to play but can’t commit to a long gameplay session.

Prepare to have your high expectations met when Revolution arrives on PSN February 28. And look for me in the online lobbies — my PSN ID is OneOfSwords, and I’m the easy target!

Hello Wii U Community,

As you know, we recently added Aim Assist to the Wii Remote in a patch. While we are happy with our decision to offer this feature, the community has already identified a number of ways to exploit it. We have fixes to the issues ready, but unfortunately this will require a patch which is still being worked on

In the meantime, we are going to push out a Hotfix that removes Aim Assist on the Wii Remote as an option until we have it in better working order. Again, we do plan to bring it back, but it will have to be in the next patch.

We apologize for the issues found and for any inconvenience this change causes. Expect this Hotfix to go live sometime today.

Call of Duty: Black Ops. CODBLOPS. BLOPS. COD. Cod. Heh, that’s a fish.

This is the exact process every human brain goes through upon trying to create an acronym for Activision’s record-obliterating mega-blockbuster, so it’s only natural that someone would eventually convert that lush, meaningful imagery back into a game. Thus, I bring you Cod of Duty. The basic premise? Evil fish terrorists are planning… something. It involves guns. And barrels. And being in barrels. Yes, this is a game in which you literally shoot fish in a barrel. The commentary, it is palpable. CODPALPS. Or something. I don’t know. Join me for some crunchy, lightly fish-flavored discussion after the break.

Despite all your mother's stern warnings, it looks like all that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 you've been playing just might pay off, as Activision has announced the Call of Duty Championship. Set to take place April 5-7 in Hollywood, the tournament will pit 32 teams against one another for a chance at the $1 million purse.

Teams will be drawn from several areas, including Xbox Live, Major League Gaming and the Electronic Sports League. Those interested in competing for a spot on Xbox Live may do so by registering for Call of Duty Elite. Starting today, teams of four can then compete on Xbox Live in the February season of Black Ops 2 League Play.

Meanwhile, the top 8 team from the MLG Winter Championship, taking place March 15-17 in Dallas, will also earn spots in the tournament, as will the top 8 teams from the ESL's European Finals, which take place March 16-17 in Cologne, Germany. The final 8 seats will go to international teams "across Asia, Australia, and Brazil." Details for international team entry will be revealed at a later time via the Call of Duty eSports website.

Show off your most impressive blops with the new Twitch integration in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The streaming service announced today that the Xbox 360 version will be the first to allow you to broadcast to your channel directly from the game, without the need for extra hardware. PC and PS3 versions are "coming soon."

The service even lets you use your Kinect as a webcam, for picture-in-picture broadcasting to show your reaction to your own amazing blops. Check out a video tutorial on Twitch's site, and then do us a favor and start using "blops" as a term for something impressive that happens within Black Ops. "Did you see those blops just now? Amazing blops!"
