You can get a Mushroom or Red Shell while in first place. You don't have to believe me, though I've already gotten a Red Shell from an Item Box I picked up while in first place before... |

Apparently, if you use a Mushroom at the EXACT MOMENT the Blue Shell starts dropping toward you, you can actually outrun a Blue Shell!!
And if you use a Blue Shell from 1st place, it's supposed to phail and vanish. Homing items are NEVER SUPPOSED TO ATTACK THE GUY WHO THREW THEM!!! Which is kinda weird, because sometimes you can pwn yourself with your own Green Shell or a Fake Item Box.
You actually CAN get a Red Shell while in 1st place. But it's not very good, because the only way you can use it is to throw it backward, and a thrown-backwards Red Shell acts like a Green Shell.
I love a Triple Red Shells. You can pwn people in front of you, knock side-drafters out, and block another Red Shell from destroying you. Triple Green Shells do the last two things, but they won't home in on racers in front of you... |

Who needs homing ability when you have good aim?*shot* And also, you can out run a blue shell if you go over a jump like the one in 64 DK jungle parkway at the exact right time. I even have a video of me doing that. |

In Super Circuit, Red Shells threw at the back would stay here and wait for a racer to come by, THEN home into him/her. |
