Note: This is about art, as the title suggests, and not about actual gameplay.

Am I the only one who hated the style-transition from the PS2 games to the DS games?

...is what we had in the PS2 games...

...and this is what we had with the DS games.

What happened? I loved the dark, gothic art style of the PS2 games, but all of the sudden it made a transition to a cliched, and, in my opinion, cheesy anime style. I do hope, in the future, that Castlevania returns to that gothic atmosphere, and continues to grow even darker in that direction.

So, what is your opinion on the art of Castlevania? Do you prefer the art style of the PS2 games, or that of the handhelds?

I hear you loud and clear. It's not that the DS games were bad; Portrait of Ruin is one of my favourite games of all time, but the old art style was so much better.

Bollocks. Castlevania games aren't supposed to attract a younger audience.

I know what you mean, they did the same damn thing from PS2 - PSP with Metal Gear Solid. Character art looked well made, and had it's own distinct scratchy style. Now, since they hired Ashley Wood to do all of the art in Portable Ops, it looks like she spattered her pen ink all over the paper and drew a bandanna on it.

I read "bandanna" as "banana".

Indeed, what were they thinking? Gruesome zombies, ancient demons, and blood-thirsty vampires are not the type of things for a younger audience. I hope that, one day, they do create, in terms of style and atmosphere, a new gothic masterpiece.
