Roughly an hour of boredom gave birth to the second version of...

FRANIS: THE GAME.

Unlike the previous version, in which you could only move left and right and do nothing, this time, there's actually stuff to do!

The evil Franish is plotting destruction for digibutter.nerr, sending out topic locks to destroy the forum! And it's up to YOU, franis, to stop him by making new posts!

The downloads

Important: Versions marked with EX contain extra music tracks, triggered with the L, K and P buttons. They have a filesize much larger than the regular versions, so download the regular verisons if you don't care about extra music. The extra filesize will multiply the downloading and startup time. v2.2 EX and up have the P song removed, due to unusually large filesize which reeeally brought up loading/uploading time.

Warning: Hitting "Save" after downloading will sometimes require you to put a ".exe" at the end of the filename, otherwise it won't work.

Move with directional keys
If you want MORE MUSCLES IN YOUR PINGAS to fire your "new post" projectiles, press the S button.
Stickies are special projectiles. They destroy all locks in their path, but do no damage to your enemies, and can only be used once per room. Press A to use them.
Announcements deal a mighty ten times the normal damage, but once again, can be used once per room. Use them with the D key.
After acquiring it, use the Prison Key with the F button!

When new posts collide with locks, they both destroy each other.
You start the game with 30 health. Collecting Hot Pockets will heal you by 5.

Let's Play Franis: The Game! An incomplete v2.5 was recorded for these.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4DDjdqpmcw Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNk2f8a3qNY Part 2

Known bugs/stuff
Party members will still attack after defeating an enemy: I was too lazy to fix it, since it'd take an extra few minutes of work. Bleh.
Joshua's beams don't appear if they spawn on you: They're set to disappear upon collision. Coincidentally, if they spawn on top of you, they collide with you faster than the game can process the sprite. If a beam doesn't appear, it means you got hit. D:
Announcement indicator doesn't show up: I really don't know why. .-.

v2.6 is OUT!
Sorry for the giant lack of updates lately. Aaanyways, this was a LOT more complicated than it should have been. D:

-There's now... An optional boss?!? It's hidden somewhere in the second town's building! He takes a bit of figuring out to defeat. Oh, and... You reeeeallly don't want to touch him. Really.
-Defeating aforementioned secret boss gives you the all-powerful F-key activated PRISON KEY. Boom!
-Stickies and announcements now refresh 10 seconds after use in every level!
-In the EX version, the P song has been replaced by something new.
-Once again, something I can't remember

Past update records

2.5 update

This one's mostly based on feedback from people.

-Dying past the 2nd visit to the town now gives you a choice to use it as a checkpoint, and revive there instead of at the start of the game.
-Grodus in the 1st town does the Funky X-Naut.
-New enemy, yay.
-In normal mode, Hot Pockets are now more common
-Something else, can't remember what D:

2.4 update

-New partner! Not from a new level, either.
-Completing the game on Hard Mode now yields a special fight!
These few updates alone took me 5 hours, 3 of them debugging. All that time had better be worth it.

2.3 update

-New BOSS. They tend to stare at you, don't they?
-Persistent health! You'll start the game with 30 health, which brings me to the next change...
-Hot Pockets are scattered around digibutter! Collecting one heals you for 5 health.
-Your health is now shown at the window bar, instead of the same ol' "Franis: The Game".
-Getting killed now takes you to a losing screen, instead of force restarting the game.
-Something else I can't remember

-I'll edit the topic title now whenever I finish a new version

2.2 update

-Another new enemy (It has lazers)
-"Empty" room is now easier, due to some people getting hand cramps or something.
-P song (The Great Empress) removed, because the filesize for that was as large as all the other songs combined. What the hell D:
-Bridget is now stronger, AGAIN
-Franish just got harder! He now shoots Dark Stickies, which behave in the same way that your own stickies do!
-Shiki now has a small chance to shoot a SUPER projectile, which deals 20 damage instead of the usual 8.

2.1 update
-2 new enemies. Go lazy update.

2.0 update
-Three new enemies, chosen by the poll-voters of OT! Although, one's not too much of an enemy.
-A new system that'll be used quite a bit in future updates! Get to the level after Joshua and read the sign to find out what.
-Lots of AI and difficulty tweaks for various enemies
-In a certain sense, a "New" town
-Your party member will appear in the top left corner
-A bug fix, so now the game doesn't horribly asplode when fighting the angry noob
-Shiki now has a slightly higher attack frequency, and does 8 damage

1.9 update
-After about 6 versions of promises, the town is actually done! Composed of 90% member input from Off-Topic.
-New level, new enemy as usual. *Takes vow of "No more TWEWY dammit"*

1.8 update
-Added the anti-cheat line from the soldier level to every level, because one of the testers at school and Maya just kept skipping every level.
-New level, again. Damn, I use TWEWY too much.
-New song, added to the B button because it has a tiny filesize and FTG had a severe lack of awesome 8-bit moozik
-Fixed a bug I just noticed while working on 1.8 that let you cheat in Hard Mode on one level o.o
-Something I can't remember (Yes, I'm that lazy)

1.7 update
-After defeating the troll, Shiki will join your party! She'll randomly appear during all fights after the point that you get her, and use an attack that deals 5 damage! Of course, don't get too excited; The attacks could miss against enemies that move around.
-Since you guys are SO nice and don't post after each update, it looks like I'm gonna have to bribe you to post by adding the new level I said I wouldn't add. >:
-Bridget and Franish are now stronger, on both normal and hard mode.

1.6 update
-New enemy, as usual. I'll give you a hint; New posts aren't necessarily used for offense only...
-Improved AI for most enemies
-Going offscreen now wraps you around. Going off the top of the screen returns you to the bottom, and vice versa.
-Franish on Hard Mode is now harder, since after a few playthroughs, I found him to be easier than some of the others

v1.5 update
-Is the game too easy? Don't worry... Hard Mode is out!
-'Nother enemy. This one attacks sparingly, and uses locks as SHIELDS!

1.55: Music added! Press M to turn it on, and press N to turn it off. More songs are going to be added in the future.

v1.56: Expansion pack, I guess. More songs added for the L and P keys. N still turns all music off.

v1.4 update
-New attack! Now franis can use the mighty power of the Announcement!
-New room, again. So zetta slow!
-AI updated
-Controls should be slightly... Err... Smoother, I guess.

v1.3 update
-Kinda improved first room, added a break room after the Locking Machine room, and an enemy after the break room... Who was hard as crag to program
-Stickies are now twice as large for more lock-destroying efficiency!
-Slightly adjusted AI, which doesn't really qualify as an improvement, since I'm not sure it's improving the game or not

v1.2 update
-3 new rooms, but only 1 contains an enemy (Extremely easy, but still a room)
-Slightly improved AI
-You can now shoot STICKIES! These projectiles burn through every lock in its path, but deal no damage to your enemy. Furthermore, you can only fire 1 per room.

v1.1 update

-All known bugs patched!
-Messages appear when you win or die
-You can now move left and right
-Additional room added! To make your way to Franish, you must first destroy the Locking Machine, and make your way to the room where Franish lays!
-Health adjusted, lock frequency adjusted

Things to look forward to in the next version

-st00f

Coming sometime in the future, but no specified version
-More special attacks
-Levelling system
-"Defeated" animations for enemies

Fun facts:
-Hard Mode is Normal Mode, except every object has been copied, had their parameters changed and placed in a new room
-Minamimoto originally played a "So zetta slow!" clip every time he attacked, but was removed due to demand from playtesters
-After the addition of a single song, the filesize was doubled
-v1.0's download count is steadily rising. Really, what the hell. D:
-v1.6 is Infotech teacher approved
-v1.7 has a staggering low of 4 downloads, normal and EX version combined
-Bridget's "Lock shield" behaviour was actually a glitch that I thought was an improvement over what it was originally supposed to do
-If you don't destroy Bridget's lock shield, the shield will creep towards you, for unknown reasons
-70% of the imperfections in the game could be fixed, but they aren't due to laziness
-PIE was the 100th object to exist in the game
-It takes about 10 minutes to upload a normal and EX version at the same time
-My faithful debuggers are the people at school who would rather play games during Infotech than do work, and claim they're helping me debug to the teacher, who accepts it as a valid excuse
-When my final Infotech project is due, the latest version of FTG will be handed in as an assignment
-There's a seperate version of the second visit to the town for Hard Mode
-There's a way to bring up a random text box with the text "Yay, Santa brought me AIDS for Labour Day!", but it's virtually impossible to do
-There are 0 downloads of the game for the first few hours each version is up, most of the time. Overnight, it springs up to around 10

Oh, and DON'T COOKIE THIS 'CAUSE I KNOW ONE OF YOU IS GOING TO SINCE EVERYTHING I'VE EVER MADE THAT INVOLVES FRANIS HAS BEEN COOKIED SO FAR.

Credit to Lord Crump for making Franish
Credit to Maya for finding the sprite for the Locking Machine (Psyche Lock), and a few ideas
Credit to Azrael for playtesting, suggestions and sprites
Credit to Tempast for playtesting and suggestions
Credit to Grodus for being Grodus
Credit to Pure-??? for supplying ideas and music suggestions

Music credits
M song (1.55 and up): Last Battle- Decision: Tales of Symphonia
L song (1.55 EX and up): Keep the Flag Flying: Guilty Gear
P song (1.55 EX to 2.2 EX): The Great Empress: Guilty Gear
K song (1.71 EX and up): Yamato Nadeshiko Damashi (Classical): Riyu Kosaka
B song (1.8 and up): メルト [Melt] 8-bit verison: Hatsune Miku Remix
P song (2.6 EX and up): Lunar Song: Silver Star Battle Theme

Because every good game needs 8-bit music.

More songs planned.

note that you have to rename it with a .exe to get 1.2 to work (for me at least).

other than that though, it was good.

Looks like there's finally a Digibutter game that gets regular updates. : P

The character variety in the game is great, and the game has a sense of humor, as well. It's awesome. The only problem that I can think of at the moment is the difficulty, as it could be a bit more challenging, but hey, it's a good game, either way. I'll be looking forward to 1.5. : D

I'm getting to it... Evantually.

Yep. I could add it at any time, but I haven't really found any songs that fit the game.

I've been thinking of adding a hard mode for 1.5 or 1.6.

I'm assuming you mean you can just walk past them and get to the next level.

I made it so you can't do that with Minamimoto for no reason, but if you just pass by, it ruins the game for you. I'll adde an anti-cheat later. >.>

Also... 1.55 is up. The extra .5 includes the addition of background music.
