Here's an article.
So, Rachel Ray, the star of 30-Minute Meals, was recently in this ad for Dunkin' Donuts' iced coffee. In the pic, she was wearing a black and white paisley scarf. Somehow, people began associating this with Islamic kaffiyehs (headdresses), which then jumped to an accusation of symbolic terrorism support. The ad was pulled after thousands of such complaints.
Now, here's my opinion on the whole thing (WARNING, because angry Devin is angry and critical):
WHAT THE CRAG. This officially ranks as one of the most stupid things I've ever seen. I mean, come on. JUST because the lady is wearing a scarf, you're going to associate it with Islamic terrorism? Even if the scarf did look like a kaffiyeh, kaffiyeh does NOT equal terrorist. It just sounds like a bunch of racist, paranoid bull to me. Besides, does Rachel Ray look like the kind of person who would be a terrorist sympathizer, which is what they've started calling her now? -_- See, this is what happens with people. They associate any aspect of another culture or group with the bad parts of that culture of group. I.E.: a white person is always a racist slave-keeper, a girl is always a whiny dependent weakling, someone who hangs out with too much of their same gender group is obviously gay. (Just to point out, I think the aforementioned examples are moar bull; they're not my views.) I, personally, adore the fashion styles and designs from places like the Middle East. My bedroom has such a theme. And I have actually wanted one of those scarfs for a while- there are groups of girls who have been wearing them to speak out against ignorance like this- but I never had the courage, because I knew I'd be attacked.
Okay, my opinion's over. Feel free to flame. (Not really, plx. This is a serious discussion topic.) Your thoughts? |

It's complete and utter BS. Living in the heart of bigot country myself, I have actually heard some others talking about how they should burn her with all of the rest of... I'm not going to finish the sentence, or how she should be "taught a lesson for disrespecting her country." It shames me to live in these parts... |

The event that occured with Racheal Ray is what you call America. To be more accurate, that is what you call the United States.
It is also what you call a load of paranoid people that need to see a doctor for some meds that would prevent the paranoia. |

This type of action really bugs me. Why accuse someone for wearing something from a different country? Not everything is related to a terrorist. As people have said, "America is a free country," seems like a false statement because now, people are not free by being called a terrorist and will get targeted by others, and called a terrorist.
The media will do pretty much anything, to accuse someone who is a popular person in the world. I clearly don't understand what they have to get out of this. They seem to be changing the culture to not accept much ideals anymore. Do they think that they'll be famous for calling out Rachel Ray for being a terrorist? This reminds me of the Joseph McCarthy, and how he declared many people to be Communists. I hope that this sense of marcarthyism isn't comming back to people, and I hope that people don't start accusing others of being terrorists. I've actually started to notice that this has been occurring more often. |

...hold, on, SSSSS-BLAM, lemme see if I get this...she's being called a terrorist sympathizer for wearing a garment that resembles a scarf worn by members of a group of which the vast majority are not terrorists? ...why do people have to be so neurotic? |

It's unfortunate that because of islamic extremists and what they did on September eleventh that many people have become intolerant of the presence of muslims. However, such is to be expected. Anger and disdain can spark a lot of undesirable and sometimes suprising behavior in the masses.
However, I refuse to have my nation insulted in a childish manner, so please be aware that I look down upon comments such as those posted by Meta Knight. |

Extremists and haters are going to be a part of humanity until we become angels. That is NOT happening. |

Considering we live in the same nation IRL.
I love the US and all, it is just that it has become...corrupted. |
