As easily as this can be made in to a "funny" thread, it isn't. This is a serious thread about an issue that isn't commonly discussed. As with always, try to be civil, and respect each other.
What is your view on prejudice towards overweight people, and how do you believe the problem should be solved?
In my opinion, prejudice based on a person's weight- or any other feature, such as race, sex, or religion- is wrong. Why should someone care whether someone has a different body structure than theirs? Why should someone care whether someone is fat because they can't help it or because they eat more? Working towards a better health is great, but that doesn't mean one should criticize another for their lifestyle choice. If they're happy with their choice, let them be, I think.
Anyway, what are your views? |

I am not entirely prejudiced against overweight people; however, it does annoy me when an overweight person continues to complain about their weight, instead of actually doing something to change it.
Now of course, this doesn't apply to people who are overweight because of a legitimate disorder, but if a person is simply overweight because of their eating habits, they either need to be happy with their current state or adopt a healthier lifestyle. |

Let's see...
I don't care how heavy a person is, as long as they don't complain about their weight, if it is self-inflicted, without a disorder. I dislike it when an overweight person comes up with excuses as to why they can't do anything to lose weight.
Although, I don't believe this is entirely the fault of the overweight person, as the media and other people often make those who don't come up with excuses, and are attempting to lose weight feel "hopeless".
Then there are the people who AREN'T "fat", but think they are. I'm often in this position. These people are often told that they are in fact skinny, or of a normal weight, but just can't see that in the mirror. This can be because they are simply a perfectionist with high standards, being affected by the media, or, usually, a combination of both. |

It is mean when people call you fat, anorexic, retarded, or commie. |

Anyway, I don't have anything against overweight people, but it pisses me off when all they do is complain about it. Daytime television is full of sob stories from overweight people who did it to themselves for the most part, and they expect people to feel sorry for them.
If there's a genuine disorder, disease, etc. at hand, then yes, I'll show some sympathy, but when someone eats until they're about to burst, and then goes on TV to get attention... I just want to smack them. |

Simply put, and has been hinted at before, I don't have a problem with overweight people, I have a problem with lazy people who take no initiative. This goes for all demographics. |

I'm a bit larger, myself, so you can guess what my views on this issue are. |

It's stupid. Downright stupid. Ess-tee-yu-pee-ai-dee.
First, our population grows older with time, creating a generation of various teenagers. Combine this with a society less strict than it's ever been. Many teenagers get spoiled. And the human shouts, MAKE YOURSELF FEEL AS IF YOU'RE SO BETTER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE, and then is born the famous popular praise.
The populars nowadays rarely ever are ugly, so, it's much more usual to have people with a potential drawback to the appearance to be the bullied ones. And fat people include here.
But then, the media has a great idea. Oh, almost every teenager nowadays doesn't give a *crag* to studies, but only to kiss kiss kiss and *crag* attractive people and be excited. So we're going to totally attract them all by dissing fat people and shoving totally thin superstars on their faces. But so we don't make it all obvious, we'll pretend we support and help fatties too.
And then, second mistake. Fat teenagers can be spoiled brats too, so instead of going for their desired solution, they'll instead adopt an attention whore policy. OOOOH LOOKIT ME I'M SO DAMN FAT I'M SUPPOSED TO KILL MYSELF LOOK AT THESE TOTALLY THIN SUPERSTARS THE MAGAZINES KEEP RUBBING ON MY FACE
Basically, it's one more stupidity that sprawls from our teenage society of nowadays. |

This also.
Personally, I don't think it's bad if you're not unhealthily overweight. A few pounds isn't life-threatening, nor is it horrifically ugly or anything.
I think I heard a rumor that airlines are thinking of charging people based on their weights. Bull. |

My family is genetically obese. My mom and her sisters eat healthily like normal thin people do, and are extremely huge. I'm on weight watchers and exercise frequently, and I'm medium-huge.
I get glares of hatred, mooing, and people randomly smacking me around because of my size.
I often wish I had the willpower to become all-out anorexic, because that's probably the only way I could attain normal size, and actually feel safe walking around, and not like someone is going to randomly walk up to me, moo at me, call me fatass, and push me onto the ground. |

Probably just for the people that take up more than one seat. I also agree with DP's post. |
