This is a serious thread to discuss the better economic system. Which do you prefer, communism, or capitalism?

I, myself, am a firm believer in capitalism, and believe communism to be the inferior economic format. The concepts of industry competition, self-interest, individuality are present in capitalism, whereas they are uncommon in communism. I believe that life under communism (Pure Marxist communism) would be boring, as it does not allow the variety and risks of capitalism.

There's always the "capitalism is driven by greed" arguement; I'll respond to this arguement by quoting a post I made on another forum:

Quote:
Let's talk about what "greed" is. Is it truly something "evil"? Is desire to succeed and make a profit wrong? Is self-interest a bad thing?

I don't see a problem with people being greedy, having self-interest, or having desire as long as it doesn't come at the expenses of other people. For instance, let's say that someone makes millions by creating a business that sells a popular product, but does so in a clean way- just succeeding against the competition. Is it wrong for that person to not give away some of his fortune to others, even though he earned it? Not really.

Well, now you have a good idea of what I'm getting at. Is wanting money and/or success a bad thing, even if it doesn't involve harming others?

Alright, so, what about you? Keep it civil.

Capitalism.

The problem with Communism is that, sure, it SOUNDS good on paper, but then there's the bugger of a problem that is human nature. It's because of our want to have more than others that makes communism simply not work in the real world.

I don't care for either. In both, the status quo makes the rich rich and the poor poor, usually with no hope of any kind of balance.

I don't like systems that space out wealth too much.

Capitalism, I gotta say. I think that greed in most cases is a desire for sucsess, and an ignored/apathetic/unwary view of the damage made to others in the process of getting more power as fast as possible. Capitalism is easily supported by greed. You have the freedom to get a career, a household, and money, without the government forcing you to do all these things, but you also have to freedom to destroy whole communities and environments, do just about anything and get away with it using money, or even gain political and military influence and use it for destructive purposes...
They're both not perfect. Communism organizes many things at the expense of human rights. Capitalisim opens freedom, both good and bad.

We've been going over this in my world studies class, and I agree with my teacher's politics. Basically, capitalism is based around self-preservation while communism is what its name states: community. In every government there should be a combination of both to help all levels of society, but capitalism should be predominant for the community naturally has and will always need an "I" to speak for the "We".

Communism would actually work very well in an ideal world. However, no one is perfect, people make bad decisions, and there is government corruption. Because of these factors, communism is ineffective.

Communism has the potential to be a great system, but underdeveloped economies and skewed political decisions always manage to make it fail.
Until a country establishes a successful communist economy, my vote goes for capitalism.

I lean towards capitalism but

I believe that the "free market" shouldn't be involved with certain things. ( for example Overcharging for life saving surgery's ) sometimes "competition" really just shoots America in the foot (sticking to my own national politics).

Capitalism is more the people while communism is more for the people. Unfortunately Communism spreads everything thinly. and when it is corrupt. it simply becomes a matter of the have and the have nots. ( the haves being the ones who control the economy and the have nots being the regular joe or jill)

As an Individualist though, Capitalism is the only way to go. as its the only real way to ensure some financial happiness for at least those who can carve their way.

an interesting example (and short read) to show you that communism can't work (due to humanity's individual thought) is the Book Anthem by Ann Ryand.

Personally, I believe both fail.

Capitalism raises our lusts and thirsts all the way up above. It estimulates the rise of marketing, to the point companies are killing everything. And I hate it.

Communism, on the other hand, estimulates, as it's been said, corruption. Not only that, but it also gives the government trouble getting us a good place to live, because they can't bill people. And lastly, it must be very troublesome to have a company watching your every movement, ready to shoot you down if you're selfish.

I don't know what's the best, but definetly, it isn't capitalism, nor communism. Sadly, if we ever find what truly is best, the big companies will make us shut up and let them have awkward sucess.

A Communist society would be great, but boring. However, there is a major flaw. We lack people that are willing to command the uprising, but later step down. That is the major flaw of communism. But then again, I don't desire power, I'd much rather have peace.

I'm rather vague on the issue of capitalism, so I'll think about it after I ask my sister.

Considering that Communism is basically just a way to limit peoples' thoughts and ideas, the Soviet Union helped to cement that, I'd have to say Capitalism. Even with all its flaws, it's the best we got.

I think a mix of the two would be best. Like, if everyone had a certain point in the economy where they couldn't go any lower. Like middle class. My family is somewhere in the low middle class group, and I personally love it. It's, ya'know, enough. Which is great. I hate luxuries.

Back on topic from my neutral-loving weirdo ways, I think it would be best if communism's theory applied to like a safety barrier, so there wasn't really such a thing was being disastrously poor. However, I don't like the idea of taking away what people work really hard to gain, unless it's taking away from other people in the first place. Like, let's say some guy exploited an ill person or something to become a millionaire. He can go rot in the street, that was a terrible thing to do.

But for capitalism, the issue is that, I dunno, it's made out to be like the centerpoint of the universe, so nobody thinks about anything BUT money.

Yeah. ...5 bucks said 90.01% made no sense. .-.;

Actually, this thread would be better if named "Capitalism or Socialism" since Communism can refer to the government as well, like China. Its government is communist and totalitarian but its economy is now heavily capitalist.

The perfect government is a monarchy. Why? People need a voice to follow... or else we don't know where to go.

The problem is, no human is fit to be a monarch or a dictator. No human can be a ruler, because humans can be corrupted... and 9/10 times they are.
