Yes, it's another anime.
Uta~Kata has to be my favorite...it's more than your typical magical girl anime. It's got drama, angst, romance {Yes, there's both BoyxBoy and GirlxGirl in this anime. If you are uncomfortable with that, then don't watch it.}, and just this whole mix of emotions that gives it this 'real' feeling. It also deals with issues like depression, eating disorders, misanthropy, confusion, abuse, all of it. All of the characters are given some kind of background; even the main character's parents are given at least a little history.
It's only 12 episodes, 13 if you include the OVA at the end of the series, so it's a great anime to watch if you're bored or feel like watching something.
The plot is simple at first, but gets more complicated later on.
{Minor spoilers ahead.}
It's the last day of school for Ichika Tachibana, and she {and her 3 friends} has to help clean up one of the unused school buildings. There's an old mirror in the building with two shards missing from it, which Ichika can't help but notice. When she goes over by it, for a brief second, she sees someone else's reflection. After the four leave the building, Ichika realizes she forgot her cell phone, and rushes back to retrieve it. However, to her shock, she sees that the cell phone, with a charm one of her tutors gave her, is INSIDE of the mirror. The girl she saw in the mirror before appears again, picks it up, and offers to give it to Ichika if she does her a favor. Ichika accepts; and the girl comes out of the mirror. The girl who came out of the mirror introduces herself as Manatsu Kuroki. When Manatsu gives the phone and charm back to Ichika, she notices the stones on the charm have changed color. Each stone represents a different Djinn; which Manatsu refers to as 'Spirits of Nature'. Ichika is given the task of using the powers of each Djinn, and recording her experiences of it. Bringing Manatsu home as her 'text-message pal', Ichika begins her 'quest'.
As summer goes on, Ichika begins to find her self caught in a mess of lies, and if that wasn't bad enough; the powers of the Djinn begin controlling her. Instead of using their powers to help others when they need it, she finds herself using their powers to satisfy herself whenever something bad happens. Her emotions continue to change, and she finds herself completely different than before, and she ends up finding out secrets she never wanted to hear. The only answers she finds are in her dreams, and those answers don't look very good.
If you want more details, check out Uta Kata on Wikipedia. But it has more spoilers, so be warned.
Anyways, in it's short 13 episodes, it managed to become the first anime to make me feel somewhat emotional, even close to the point of crying once. I wish they would've made more episodes or something. :<
