They really need to learn to swim before they go to the deep end. Let's look at Cloud strife: Honestly, he was a nuisance in off topic, but when he came to Role play, he was just a little below average of roleplay standards, which is good enough to role play.

What I'm saying is, maybe a week for them to learn forum manners, or less if they deem themselves worthy, (Like Wee Gee did with his post about digibutter being a disappointment.)

Any comments?

There could be two results to this:

1. It ends up very bad. New members spam the forum with crap that belongs in OT, and are angry because of the restricted forum.

2. It motivates new members to become better so they can get more features on the forum.

The first is definately the more likely outcome.

Maybe we could have SOME things given for being an awesome member or being a member for a long time, but OT should not be one of them.

Bullshit. Before we even HAD the Dump or OT, members weren't particularly spammy. It wasn't until the Dump was added that Digibutter became the cesspool of spam that it is today.

However, ? Block, before that, Off-Topic was like a middleground between the current Off-Topic and General Discussion. Without any area to discuss youtube videos and stuff in, they WILL spam forums.

If they're going to misbehave in OT, they'll do it elsewhere, as well. And we don't want OT looking like an 'elite club', either. It's pointless to not allow them in; heck, it probably makes more sense to restrict them to OT at first, until they can prove that they can post with the quality that the rest of the forums require. Then again, that will only strengthen the "community center" that OT has become- which is a problem, as there's much more to the site than OT, while OT and RPOT get the most attention. I disagree with such regulation; it would harm the site.

Supported. If new members spam in, say, General Discussion, the thread will be striked and locked and they'll learn their lesson. In Off-Topic, their thread is either completely missed by mods due to sanking below other threads or they forget about the thread and the mod locks the thread an hour later.

This is just an idea, I'm not saying I like it better than the other ideas, but I'm just throwing it out here.

We COULD have an OT and a "New User Off-Topic" And when a mod thinks a new user is worthy of going to OT, then the mod can grant them access. I don't really like this idea, too much...

If you ask me, OT is worse than the Dump.

Albeit I agree with Glitz.

But the New User forum is used to know if someone is a spammy person or not. So basically they can't post in OT until they post in the New User forum and Francis approves them.

Maybe the first 10 posts should be made in like a newbie forum. Like on NSider. It gives them a chance to learn how to not *crag* up.
