In other words, Casual/Light Role-Play forum and Discussion and Deep/Serious Role-Play and Discussion. This was already suggested in this topic, but it got off topic and it should become a separate suggestion so I made this topic. The other topic was about DELETING Off Topic, but now this one is about seperating both the RP forum and the General Discussion forum. First, I'll just copy paste what I said: Personally, I think we should have a Serious discussion forum and a Light discussion forum. The Light discussion could be like GD with some OT in it, but will have rules. It is for discussing anything you want, and any spam in the forum will be striked. The serious discussion forum could be like some sort of a debate forum.
What I want is to separate GD into a Serious and Light discussion, and same with RP, but Deep and Casual Role-Play, that way, the following could happen. -Less spam. -People starts to make serious plots in RP since RPOT was actually meant to be like OT with characters with basically no plots at all. -Less drama -Less confusion. -More rules to the "Light" discussion -Renaming OT into something not spammy. -People won't actually be sad that OT is gone because Light Discussion will basically be like OT with rules and a new name. Now I also have some quotes that should belong here and that also goes along with this suggestion. These are important quotes. Some of these quotes that I will post are also good suggestion, but those don't really tie in with this suggestion.
Quote: | It is, ultimately, Francis's decision, and I believe that he doesn't want to remove OT (From what he said on one of the Nerrcasts.)
I don't know. On one hand, many large, successful fan sites don't have forums like Off-Topic. On the other... many do. On one hand, deleting it could reduce the amount of spam on the site. On the other... deleting it could create flame/complaints.
I don't mind having an Off-Topic forum; I just don't like how it's the most active forum on the site, and how many people spend most of their times in there. Maybe a limit on the number of topics per hour there, to encourage activity elsewhere? I don't know; the problem isn't easily fixed.
If it is ever deleted, maybe a stickied "Youtube/Flash video" thread could be made to compensate for the lack of space to post videos, and a "funny image thread" could be made, as well. |
Quote: | Maybe dividing Off-Topic, instead of deleting it, could work. There could be a "War Room" forum for item war discussion (Which, in my opinion, would encourage item usage far more than Off-Topic would), and there could be individual stickied topics in GD for internet videos and flash movies. If clans are added, each clan's forum could be the place for forum games, and digiblogger's activity would see a large increase as people could discuss their personal feelings there. There could also be a general "Community Discussion" stickied in GD, as well as one in each of the "clans."
With that, you'd be able to discuss everything you could in OT, but without a whole forum for it, and with greater efficiency. |
Quote: | Off-Topic, in my opinion, should be changed to Casual Discussion. It doesn't have to be like General Discussion, but we talk as if we were actually conversing with you. Random phrases wouldn't be said, random videos wouldn't be allowed. It would be a place were we can discuss anything, that doesn't need to go in General Discussion, casually.
As a solution for the YouTube videos and all the other videos, the Media forum could accept these videos. While the Media forum discusses Anime, Books, Movies, TV, Comics, it could also include YouTube videos. That way, we wouldn't have to see the Off-Topic having many YouTube videos, and if people are looking for good ones to watch, the Media is the place to go. There would also be some rules, on what YouTube videos you could post. This would help bring more members to the Media forum. |
Quote: | "Spamming" isn't true fun; you can kick back and have good, meaningful discussions in all the other forums this site has. |
Quote: | With the division of Off-Topic, and changing GD into something with lighter rules (Although not as light as OT) and adding in a pure Serious Discussion forum would probably solve the problems associated with removing OT. Everything in OT (Except for spam) could be discussed with greater efficiency, as there wouldn't be one big forum where topics and posts can get lost in, and activity in the rest of the forums would see an increase.
And, I don't think a very large number of members would be lost if this ever does happen. When The Dump was removed, most of the regular members remained, if I remember correctly. |
Quote: | Maybe we should have a forum dedicated to forum games? |
Quote: | It is a problem that OT is so important, don't you agree? OT is the most active forum, true, but most of the other forums on this site are far less active. There is far more to the site than OT, and people ignore the other great features of the site in favor of OT.
Whenever someone leaves the site, often, they say that it's "boring" or "not very fun." All the action's in OT, and that may be one of the reasons for why people believe that. |
Quote: | Debatable. Some of the plots in RPOT are great. I do believe, though, that the Role-Play forums should be re-worked for greater efficiency. Maybe a "Deep Role-Play" and "Casual Role-Play" board to go along with the "Casual" and "Serious" discussion forum that Small Sammer Guy suggested. |
Quote: | I'm not letting the loss of OT go without turning Role-Playing Off-Topic into Casual Role-Playing and STRICTLY enforcing the rules there. There's probably more unmarked maturity in one month of there then all of OT combined (minus the IUOS).
Actually, that part should be done right now. There's nowhere that said maturity and absolute godmodding/spam/overly Out-of-Characterness should be moved to, it should absolutely be deleted. The name change can wait, but the rules need way more enforcing there. |
(C)s to Lord Crump for most of these quotes and Jr. Troopa, Tayl, and UltiMario for 3 of them :> |

I believe that separating the forums would remove all of the problems of the original ones while keeping all of the good things of the original ones, and adding a large amount of activity to the rest of the site.
OT is the most popular forum, whereas the rest have little activity compared to it. That misses the whole point of having multiple forums on a site. And besides, OT is hard to moderate, whereas spreading it out would make moderation far easier. The good consequences of dividing OT up far outweighs the bad consequences. |
