My friends have told me that when I ding, I have a half-octave; which means that my lower pitches are in high octaves and my high pitches are in lower octaves. I'm not the kind that sings but my friends found this out when we play Rock Band and I do vocals.

I don't know if it's true that I have a half octave or if my friends just made it up. Is there any way I can check this?

Seek help from a professional singer, someone who sings on a normal occasion (like in the choir or something), or Simon from American Idol.

You can also record yourself, then compare to someone with full octaves.

All I know is that when I sing in Rock Band, I hit the highs and the lows perfectly. Yeah, I can sing, but I don't like it. I'd much rather do vocals for a hardcore-punk band, cuz I like shouting (no screamo, though).
