You may have already seen that in that weird movie with that floating alarm clock.
On October 12th, we'll (we being a team of international scientists / humanity as a whole) stard the LHC, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland and try to make a black hole, which after a theory - read: theory - from Stephen Hawking, the man himself, should evaporate - and maybe leave behind a so-called "relic" which is, for all ands and purposes, a f*cking infinite source of energy that can provide the whole earth with electricity with just one ton of ANY material, like radioactive waste.
On the bad side, if it all goes poopy, we'll all be spaghettified, then squashed together into a space smaller then a proton. Whilst several teams have assessed the experiment and improved it and call it now perfectly safe, doubt still exists.
What do you think ? Humanitys' solution, dream, or downfall ? |

To me, it definately a downfall. But I also think making the blackhole will fail because I simply don't believe a human can produce that much power. This whole story reminds me of Super Paper Mario and the void. |

When I first read the thing about Hadron, I was thinking "Sweet! We get red beams that have insane firepower and travel for prodigious range!" Too much Code Geass for me.
This'll probably be our downfall. If we do get pooped, it's two days before my didter's birthday, so I won't have to buy her a gift. |

We're getting too far with technology at this point. Science can create catastrophes when abused. |

I have no idea what will happen, but I think they shouldn't do it.
It's just not worth it. |

At the very least, they should do this when we get space travel working nicely, so they can do it on some nowhere planet millions of miles away. T_T |

I've heard about this on another forum. I somehow doubt that they'll actually go through with this in the end. But if they do, all I'll say is that SRB2 1.1 had better be released by then. |

If it doesn't work, then we're fine.
If it does work, and makes a black hole, then we're doomed. |

This just seems...I don't know, insane. "We're going to make a black hole that will either cause PROFIT, or will kill us all."
Something's not quite right here. |

Thaaat's science for ya.
I think it's an interesting experiment, and really do hope it goes well. That being said, it's kinda idiotic to be doing it here on Earth. .-.
...But look on the bright side: if it screws up horribly, we won't be in any sort of position to care, will we? :D |

Such an event is too unhumanly to create. A black hole, created from a machine? *laughs*
I scoff at such idea! It is impossible, with current technology! It would require massive amounts of power just to start it up! Splitting of atoms, rearranging of molecules!
And if it did start, the results would become catastrophic! A black hole is uncontrollable. It would be impossible just to make one, let alone keep it at a size where it wouldn't consume to world, and the entire solar system.
Dream on, humanity, dream on. |

I hope that the teams behind this, is very confident that this is safe and that in no way, we will be hurt in any way. Though, as Stephen Hawking had said that it was an "infinite source of energy", this might be good for us. We'll have more countries in the world who can have electricity who never had it before. It may reduce the price of the electricity bills, because it will be so much easier to produce with this "infinite source of energy." New cars may emerge, that can run on electricity because we'll have an infinite amount, and it will probably be much cheaper for everyone.
Though on the bad side, if this did fail, then we'd be in big, big trouble. Also, I'm quite glad that the world decided to get together, and to do a project to make our countries closer to each other. |

Well, apparently CERN is looking foreward to it.
It's sad how they can go from releasing the World Wide Web to potentially ending humanity 14 years later.
Yeah. |

I don't think it should be attempted, really. |

This shouldn't even be attempted. Although the good side is nice, the bad side outweighs it.
I know that they have a good cause...but I say it's still way too risky. We aren't just dealing with a city being wiped out, we're talking about possibly more than just Earth. |
