It would be wonderful if such a power source could be had. Although I'm sure I would have heard more about this if success were more likely, I still can't wait to hear the result.

Awesome. Hope the experiment doesn't fail. If it does backfire, then it nothing that bad. We were all going to die eventually.

It shouldn't be done. Something like this can't be risked - If scientists actually managed to create a black hole, It'd more likely than not kill us all. I'd never trust a band of crackpot scientists with a black hole generator with the fate of humanity.

Which is bad 'cause Osama abused 'em.

Mad scientists + Black hole generator + human lives = NEW INDEPENDANCE DAY (the movie)

We're all *crag* f-cked.

...I really don't care if it backfires, if you want my honest opinion.

There's a flaw with that theory. The amount of energy required to create the black hole would be tremendous, and this experiment would probably be a massive failure.

Now I'm REALLY frightened.

That's just greedy! I don't want this experiment to take place.

Yes, I may be a *crag* pussy, but being sucked in a black hole sounds like a painful way to die.

NO, this is a BAD idea.

I don't care if it will create an unlimited power source. This is a BAAAD idea. Why? Well, it's based off of a THEORY, not a proven fact.

"Oh, but the only way to prove a theory is to test it!"

Yeah, but, I wouldn't test a theory that could wipe out the entire *crag* earth just to cut energy taxes.

"But it's safe!"

Black hole. Not safe. Unless they have a way of DESTROYING the black hole if it goes out of control, I'm NOT trusting this.

On top of that, what happens if it DOES work? We get an unlimited power source? Well, what if the theory is incorrect, and we get nothing? What if people begin using controlled black holes for warfare?

This is a bad direction to be going in...

Not only that, but I don't want to be compressed into a lepton, *crag* it.

If there is a possibility of mankind's doom, it is a very, very small threat, at most. And that's going with the idea that the experiment is a success, which is probably a slight chance of happening, as well.

Hate on me all you want, but I just don't like believing all these doomsday scares that end up being false- Y2K, that meteor a few months back, etc. I'm not believing in any threats in the near future, either- such as 2012 (Which has little, if any, evidence backing it up.)

Until I get the full story on this, I'll assume that the possibility of danger is being blown out of proportions.

They're not trying to create a black hole. They're trying to create a higgs boson using the LHC. The LHC has a small chance to create mini black holes. My info might be wrong though. xD

Still, this is a bad idea.

I thought the only evidence was because the Mayans said it would happen. >_>

Well, that really doesn't back it up; despite being right about some things in the past, any doomsday prediction (Not based on scientific/logical observation, which I don't believe this one is) is too extreme of a superstition.

[/rerail]

Anyway, if it was a real big doomsday threat, it would be well-known (I never knew of it before this thread, nor anyone who I know knew about it.) I believe that the dangers are exaggerated.
