According to the well-established properties of gravity, described by Einstein’s relativity, it is impossible for microscopic black holes to be produced at the LHC. There are, however, some speculative theories that predict the production of such particles at the LHC. All these theories predict that these particles would disintegrate immediately. Black holes, therefore, would have no time to start accreting matter and to cause macroscopic effects.

That had better be true. Apparently, the black holes aren't what they're looking for, but microscopic ones may be a side-effect.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

CERN does not want to create a black hole.

oh god.

This is a *crag* relief!
Now I can be at peace. I was thinking about this when I was bored...

I'm sure you don't want to know, but October 12th is my dad's birthday...

Anyways, there is no reason to fear anything.

Okay, GUYS ! LISTEN UP !

Before you all start hiding behind he sofa with a paper bag over your head, let me say this:

The black hole CAN be created. Yes, it DOES use massive amounts of energy, but the LHC accelerated elemental particles to 99.alongstringofnumbers % of light speed, then smashes them together.

That gives us a black hole the size of less then a needle's head.

CERN has hired an anonymous, independent facility to test the security, and they say that it'll take that black hole 100 years to find a particle of matter to absorb and grow and more time then the sun has left to live to reach a mass of 100 kg. Aparently, the LHC in in a near-perfect vacuum, which makes sense because air friction would screw it good.

So, the danger is minimal. A minority still says we shouldn't meddle with that, but, as my favourite author Terry Pratchett wrote:

Terry Pratchett wrote:
Of course somebody would be that stupid. If somebody put a large switch in a cave somewhere and wrote over it "END OF THE WORLD SWITCH. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH !" the paint wouldn't have time to dry.

Absolutley not. There are somethings science shouldnt push. Also if your risking the entire world for the sake of helping it, well you might have to reconsider your options.
