There is absoloutely no reason to keep in taboo'd.

Recent studies are more and more discovering the effects are not nearly as severe as once thought, mostly raising only 3-4% because of the incest relationship, assuming cousins: Age can cause a bigger percentage shift then incestual relationships with cousions 100% of the time(Or close to it).

Though, IMO, that really doesn't matter. I mean, think about it: A man born with a birth defect is more likely to carry it on. Yet...do we not still let them breed? Really, the increase is no different then any other factor to increase, such as diseases caught in life, natural birth defects(Carried over from parents or not), or other such cases, but they are still allowed to breed, and love each other and others, and such. So any "medical" reason can only be used to extent to further things from such.

Next...well, a lot of people think it shouldn't be legal because they don't like it.

In my honest opinion, to be blunt, if that is a reason for banning, it's complete and utter bullshit. Just because YOU don't like something, it doesn't mean it should be completely and utterly stamped out. If it was, then a million OTHER things have to be stamped out, because the majority does not "like" or "agree" with them. You can always just persecute them when it's legal instead of persecuting them with other methods that essentially forbid it from existing. It's not like their forcing you to love your sister, brother, cousin, etc. etc.

So, to be it simply, I feel it should be allowed. It doesn't restrict one's free will, it doesn't cause such a signifigant amount of mental degredation that it will cause the downfall of society, and other countries(France, Japan, Belgium) have had it allowed...and they function just fine, do they not?

Dammit, Lord Crump pretty much read my thoughts on the issue.

I don't think love between family members of any sort should be taken to a SEXUAL level. Because really, sex is what separates incest from just watching out for your brother, sister, or cousin. There's a difference between making out with each other or giving a sibling a goodbye kiss.

SSG is right; stuff between family members a generation or any warningly number of years apart is still NO GOOD. And of course if you inadvertently end up dating your great-great-great second cousin or something like that, well, it's not really bad if you didn't know in the first place. Family structure can get so big and complicated sometimes that everyone becomes sort of distant. @_@

Random mating. If humans all mated within their families, we would never progress as a species. It'd just be the same people over and over and over, no differentiating qualities.

Naturally, people with weaker traits die out and people with stronger traits live longest, and those who live longest make more children to carry these traits. If they breed with multiple individuals, they have a chance to create an even STRONGER individual.


And yeah, animals commit incest if there are no mates from other families... but in that case... it was never EVER about LOVE. It was about KEEPING THE SPECIES ALIVE.

Once again... I think if two people are both consenting, mentally sound adults, they can do whatever they want in privage.

And the whole thing about incest causing birth defects is an urban legend.
The one problem with inbreeding is that it makes the gene pool too small, so that all the organisms are too similar to one another and they're all highly susceptible to the same diseases, like cheetahs are because most of them are inbred.

Mhh. this is something I really don't think about often. There is a difference in love I believe, Family love, and Relationship. Neither limited by blood. now mind you I wouldn't Date my sisters, or my Cousins but what goes on behind closed doors is not my business. I cant tell anywho who to love, I don't believe in moral limitations.

As long as its consensual I suppose. I mean I wont lie I'm not cool with the Idea, but I really don't care what others do.

there are dangers in inbreeding though. those need to be considered before anyone ever considers having intimate moments.
