Well, I recently saw some videos on youtube of this surprisingly realistic Japanese "actroid" called DER 2 or something like that. Cool stuff, you should look it up on Youtube some time.

Anyway, that brings us to the subject- the advancement of artificial intelligence. Now, that actroid mentioned earlier was still all-programming (A better phrasing would be "lacking in true learning/sentience") but it was pretty close when it came to certain human expressions and mimicry. It definitely was a good example of advanced technology. What do you think about the growing and seemingly unlimited advancement of artificial intelligence? I believe that it's only a matter of time before scientists figure out how to design self-aware machines. Then, we'll have The Matrix or Terminator in no time. Laughing

Kidding, kidding. Seriously, though, I do believe that it will be possible one day for scientists to create machines that have "minds" as complex as ours. Well, once scientists figure out everything about the human mind first, that is.

Also, another topic worth discussing is if all this self-aware/emotion-having machine stuff does happen- which it probably will- what "rights" would these machines have? Say, a mechanical being with a CPU identical in terms of capabilities to a human mind having "human rights."

That Spielberg movie with Haley Joel Osment about Artificial Intellegence was epic. Oh, wait....this is about the actual science thing, not a movie. So yeah, I think one day A.I. will be used everywhere, similar to WALL•E, I Robot, and Blade Runner.

I just hope those scientist watched their Robot Apocalypse movies...

Anyway, did you know that humanity is rather quickly approaching their technological singularity ?

You mean like robots?
It'd be cool if scientists invented them for work, so us humans will get less tired.

Even though it would end horribly, I would prefer AI robots as both workers and part time companions.

The part-time companion thing brings us to human-robot interaction.

Now, as I said before, this robot lacks true AI- as in self-awareness. However, if robots do become self-aware, and have the same capacity for emotion and learning that humans have, what rights would they have?

Would they have the same rights as humans?

Would deleting their memory be murder?

Would the creator have all the say of what to do to the robot, or give/assign rights to the robot?

As the thread inevitably reached a sort of agreement that technology will advance to this point, let's talk about something less commonly discussed.

My ideal scenario involving robots and AI is like the setting of SD Gundam Force: robots are basically human, in that they have the same rights, intelligence levels, even capacity for emotion and such, and live side-by-side with us like normal people. Having robot neighbors would be fun. :3

In the future, humans and robots will be as one, except robots would be better than us. As long as they don't commit crimes, I'm fine with it.
